I still haven't received my board but I just got in this heatsink. I really wasn't expecting something so big. Just wondering if there will be any issues with clearance with RAM and the heat pipe thing

I will be getting my Antec P180 case today. When I migrate my parts over I will take a pic of the XP-120 on the mobo.

The XP-120 fits easily onto the motherboard. The XP-120 does overhang the Dimm 1 slot but I placed my ram in before installing the XP-120. However, I'm pretty sure I could take the ram out if needed with the XP-120 installed. And there are no clearance issues with the XP-120 and heatpipe.

looks like it will just fine but to be sure...which way did you guys face the heatpipes? it seems like the optimal placement would be to have the heatpipes near the RAM. will it be a problem in removing/installing RAM?

Andy, got your pm but you have your pm'ing turned off, so I'll post here.

I just moved all of my stuff into a P180 lastnight also. And I did get a chance to take picks of how my XP-120 looks on the motherboard. It was so late lastnight, that I was going to wait til I get out of work today to post them to the forum.

I have the heatpipes facing the capacitors and mine don't touch them. Close but they don't tough them. If you had them facing towards the ram, I believe you'd lose dimm slot 1. But you can have it face either way. Good luck.

I'll post my pics later today.

i appreciate the help caveman. it seems for me that it actually does touch the capacitors. of course, im just testing it out so i havent installed anything yet. i did try and see what would happen if i installed ram first and then the heatsink and that seemed like it would be more of an issue since it was literally touching the ram.

do share your pics if you dont mind :) i can host them if necessary

ps. sorry about the pm being blocked. i didn't know it was off by default.

I have seen a pic of a 120 on there (maybe at the Hard board) but i don't remember where i saw it. The 120 hangs over the nb heatpipe cooling it as well and does not interfere with any caps or ram.

i actually got it installed. did it like caveman describes. i had to nudge one of the capacitors just a little bit so that nothing is touching but otherwise no issues :)

now im just having cabling issues with the p180 and my seasonic but thats whole other topic :)

thanks again caveman

What are you covering with that little heatsink next to the Northbridge?

I think the good cap'n is covering the very corner of the NF4 chipset with this heatsink. On the premium board the heatsink is askew from the chip so the corners of the chip stick out just a bit. This is just a guess but that is what it looks judging from the first pic.

There is no need for it. The core underneath is very small. That's the only thing that must be making contact.
