Anyone have a pet chameleon? :)

Saw some at the pet store today (vieled variety). I've never had a lizard before. Anyone have one and care to share their experiences?

Pshh. I used to have snakes ( I miss them 🙁 ) and started feeding them all live baby mice. 6 years later, it was a combination of adult mice, rats and rabbits. I'd have used cats if I could touch one without breaking out in hives and convulsing due to lack of oxygen.

Trouser snake MIA? LOL  😛

I saw them for 80 bucks at the pet store, but they were REALLY small though. I saw one eat a cricket and laughed. I personally own a hamster named Wilbur. That is all.

I bought my boy one about eight months ago, cool as all hell IMHO, eats live crickets, damn fast tongue if you ask me 🙂

Anything particular you want to ask me ?

Yeah the small ones are 80 and the big ones are on sale for 50. Pricey but cool pets. I used to have a couple hamsters...they were always getting into the walls somehow. I think hamsters were my favorite small furry critters. h8 gerbils :|

Yeah everything 😉 Google isn't super helpful, not a lot on them suprisingly. Um...I've never had a lizard before and it looks like lighting, heat, etc. are very important. Basically I need a light, some kind of plant, a big cage, and live food?

10 gallon fish tank, wire mesh top, oak shavings, an old branch off a tree, a 40 watt light bulb and a dish of water, that's it 🙂

Live medium size crickets go for $1 a dozen, feed him once a week.

Actually, no. Take a look.

I'm wearing a leather glove b/c Andy decided that crawling up into the frame of the couch was a nifty idea. I had to reach in there and drag her out. I started w/o the glove. NOT pleasant. BTW, this is when she was half the size she eventually grew into.

What kind do you have, veiled? Do you ever clean the shavings or are they not as messy as furry creatures?

5? Not for one of these.....</a>

The chameleons in the link above require a lot of special care and aren't good pets for beginners. they need special lighting, diets, humidity, the list goes on. I'd start with something simple and work your way up. It's the only thing that's kept me from getting one.

If you want a fairly easy pet lizard to keep and actually handle a good bit then get an iguana or a bearded dragon. Even then though, they require a good deal of care. they aren't a buy em' and forget em' kind of pet.

Nah, I want a chameleon. "Hard" simply means you have to pay attention to them unlike a cat. And I don't want a big one...my friend has a pair of 6' iguanas...waaayy too big for my tastes.

How bout this pic? 😀
