Newegg has a new Konica Minolta digita camera that looks pretty sweet. It is the DiMAGE X31. It is the smallest digital camera that I have seen with a 3x optical zoom. The reviews at Steve's Digicams seems to be pretty good of the older models and I would expect the same out of this one too. For the size and quality it seems like a steal to me.

Not quite the same zoom, but have you looked at the DiMage Xg? I just picked one up...it's much thinner than that one, so it fits anywhere. It is, however, a hundred bucks more. It's one of the best ultra-compacts, from what I've gathered.

My sister has the DimageX and my girlfriend has the Diamage xT both are great cameras that fit in pockets and purses. Solid build.

I have read the preview of it on DPreview, but it does not go into anything other than the specs of the camera. Also, the Kyocera at Amazon is over $100 more than the Minolta camera and has more movia parts that can break. Up until now I was looking at the Canon A75 and the Sony DSC-P72 since they were cheaper than the digital Elph and others like it. Now, since I have found this one I am really thinking about getting it because of its size (I would like something that I can carrty in my pocket) and its price. Also, I wanted a 3x opticial zoom.
