Was watching the tonight show awhile back and Kate Hudson was on and she made her own jewellery. Said there was a 90% markup on most stuff. I was just curious about the trade. tried googling, but can't find much.
My girlfriend works for a Silver shop that makes all their own stuff. They order silver chains, beads, and little pieces that have space to engrave initials. Most necklaces sell for around $20 and I think they only cost about $6 or so. If you can imagine that markup alone. It's a good business if you have enough distribution. The shop she's in has a sales quota of $300 per day. I guess that'd be around $200 in materials profit minus labor and other expenses. It's extremely profitable around Xmas and other gift-giving holidays.
