Anyone have a dog door?

I had a miniature beagle, so I didn't need a large door. I got mine at PetSmart (do they have those over there? 😕 ). I liked it because it had a magnet at the bottom of the swinging door and another along the bottom of the frame so the door wouldn't just keep swinging. dog went through, door closed, magnets held the door in place. 🙂

Ditto, i have the same one and like it still.

Except I had to get the X-Large one because my dog weighed like 125 lbs.

I've bought all of my dog doors from http://www.petdoors.com/ and I buy their Pacific Patio brand(door installed and sliding glass door). I have them to be the best around for ease of installation and weather-proofing. They also have awesome customer service.

I live in a house built in 1924. We retasked the milk door for the dogs. Works great.

For the yungin's a milk door is a little compartment with a door on each side by the back door the milk man would put your milk in.

I keep telling my parents that they need one... their dog does *not* like to be separated from them.

it's one thing if they're at work and totally out of site/hearing, but if the dog is outside and they're inside, he'll do anything he can to get to them... except he doesn't bark, he just rips through their screen door 😱 they've replaced it twice already, I keep telling them it's only a matter of time before he tries crashing through the glass door in the winter/fall.

I installed a cat door on my basement door. Works really well. Had to push my cats through a few times to get them to use it but now they just jump through with ease.

Bought mine from Amazon and used a jigsaw to cut the hole in the door. Easy peasy

we thought about it. but im worried about heat/cooling loss.

If you live in a fair climate, you won't notice the difference. I couldn't even tell standing next to it if there was a draft outside. Granted, I live in Oregon and there's no real need for constant heat or constant AC.

I live in the Northeast and I have a sliding glass door panel doggie door. It uses double paned glass and has an insulated frame. The doggie door itself is double walled and well insulated around. It also has magnets to keep it shut on windy days.

hmm. we will have to look at those.

we are hopefully putting up a fence this summer (if i can scrounge up the money and help) and this would be great.

fwiw - this is the panel that I have - Thermal Panel IIIe

Had a couple of issues with air leakage but I called them up and they sent me additional insulation. Great door, it's adjustable and it's easy to pull out whenever I need to. Not cheap though.

I have a large one installed in the wall. I bought it at home depot and installed it myself.
The pro is pretty obvious. I don't have to get up and down all the time to let the dogs in and out and they can still go out when I'm not home.
Mine has a double flap so its a little better about heat/cooling lose but it does still lose a bit.

A cat came in thru our dog door while we were away with our dog. It sprayed on the furniture and we came home to a truely putrid smell and had to have a sofa and chair professionally cleaned. Make sure it has a provision to lock it when you are away. Our earlier model didn't and we never considered that another animal would come in.
