Anyone have a dental implant?

I split a tooth last year down to the root and it couldn't be saved. The adjacent teeth are pristine so I didn't want to get a bridge.

Had the implant put in last December and will get the crown this summer.

Hope I did the right thing especially considering it's expensive.

Does anyone have one and are you happy with it?

Not yet Riprorin, but you did the right thing. Every dentist I've spoken to has suggested to me that having an implant is better than a bridge because when done correctly, it's a one time deal. Bridges can can still fail. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the feedback.

My insurace covers 40% so it was $1000 for the implant and it will be $500 for the crown.

I've heard that a lot of insurance companies won't cover anything.

I love mine. And it was cool as hell staring up the shaft of a little pneumatic drill as he makes the hole, and then he actually screws the post in with a little screwdriver!
My insurance wouldn't pay a dime either. I was very angry with them--I had 2 dentists, an oral surgeon and an orthodontist who all recommended in writing that because of my age (20), good dental health and the 2 adjacent teeth not being worth destroying for a bridge, that the implant would be the most effective and most permanent way to go.
They still wouldn't listen.

But I've had it for 2 years now! I love it.

I have to get it done because I have a baby tooth that is about to fall out!
Can someone tell me about it? How long do you have to go without a tooth?

MrsSkoorb, it all depends on what the bone is like where your current tooth is. Depending on the bone situation, sometimes they pull the tooth out and place the implant in the same sitting, while other times, they will pull the tooth out and have to treat the bone and gumline to be sure the implant is stable and as cosmetically alike w/ the teeth on each side. You will definately have to discuss this w/ your dentist. Hope this helps.

I lost an upper first molar. After the tooth was extracted, the denstist recommended waiting at least 4 months to get the implant inorder to allow time for the bone to regenerate. Then after the implant, you have to wait about 8 months for the bone to grow around the implant. After that you get a temporary crown to make sure everything is working properly and then a permanent crown. Basically you're without a tooth for about a year.

In my case, I waited about 8 months to get the implant so I will be "toothless" for about 1 1/2 years. Fortunately. it's far enough back so it's not too obvious.

Getting the implant was no big deal. Getting the tooth extracted was another matter.🙁

What Zim said. He described the situation to a tee.

I broke a rear molar in the service and ruined 2 other teeth with a permanent bridge simply because they didnt have implants then. Now have a permanent bridge over 2 implants and no problem at all except the cement came loose once just as can happen to any crown.

No painful but tedious to get done. You wont be sorry if you get a good Dentist. BTW, they can do it while you are asleep if you are willing to pay for it.
