We are moving and the house we are looking at is smaller than where we currently live. Im thinking about putting my computers in the new houses basement.

The basement is dry (not sure how hot, might have to get some sort of air for it), but it is unfinished.

I am thinking about putting down some of that carpet stuff they sell for college dormrooms in one half of the basement and using it for my computer room.

Has anyone done this? Anything to worry about with PCs in the basement other than the ugly walls, etc...?

<---raises hand....

Basements are always cool... that's a plus...

all my equipment is raised 6 or more inches off the ground *just in case*

It's nice becasue i have a lot of room to spread crap out.... it's out of the way so I can leave a project half done on the floor and not have to worry about the kids destroying it or my house being messy in case of a spot inspection by the in-laws. It's also super easy to run cable for my Lan...

I'd say there are a lot of benefits... as long as you're sure you won't flood it's a good place for 'em

another cellar dweller here. My basement is finished (ala 70's style panneling which I hate BTW) but it's nice and clean and quiet. lots of storage space (3 closets with shelving). If I could get some decent climate control going I'd probably never leave.

My bedroom's in the basement, I love it down here. It's always cool, so it's great in this heat. Plus, this room's the second biggest after the master in this house. No problems that I can see, only good things. :) (Computer, 27" TV, Gamecube, stereo, with the bathroom and 2nd fridge down the hall. Too bad the microwave down here's broken, otherwise, I'd never go upstairs. :D)

yeah we are going to look at the house tommorow night. I know that my stuff barely fits in now, so I know when we move (if we move into that house) since its smaller Im going to have less room.

Other than it getting hot down there or water coming in, I really see nothing bad that might happen.

My computer room is also our guest room in my current house. So its a pain cause mom always complains that its not clean. If it was in the basement or my room she wouldn't care. (I am not a neat person  )

Only thing I don't really like is the ideal that its not finished. The basement is one big room with a two car garage. So I'll get to see the cars and the lawn mower in my computer room.

Basement is quite comfortable in summer and unfinished means real easy to run cat5 cables, etc. I've always had basement computer room... My family is up to 6 total computers down here.

Looks like a lot of people use their basements for computer rooms.

Sounds like it might be alright... well I'll know more tommorow night after we take the "offical" tour of the home, etc...

my room is in the basement and my brothers computer are in the basement as well because it is rasy to run cat5 cable, my dads comp is on the main floor but it already had a hole to run the cable through. The basement is unfinished so u get lots of bugs and i get bats down here every once and a while.

I have a really small room on the second floor of our house and its getting exteremly cramped and hot in here now. Im considering moving to the basement but I always see like bigass black cockroaches down there. I think theyre Oriental Cockroaches. Ive killed like 4 of them in the past 2 weeks, and thats pretty much the only barrier stopping me. After all, theres already a 27" TV, treadmill, fridge, bed, and table down there.

Imagine this crawling on your face when you sleep
