Hey, anyone (im sure someone does) have a bulldog? If so, what specific breed would you recomend? And since they are small(er), are they good apartment dogs? Thanks.

French bulldog might be possible for you. English bulldog? No way in hell would I have one in an apartment.

Really, I wouldn't have either of those breeds in an apartment setting. My brother and his wife breed English bulldogs and those are not ones I would ever suggest to somebody in an apartment setting.

ETA - My brother's bulldogs weight at least 55 pounds. Those are the females. The males weigh much more. They act like they weigh 5 pounds. They're very rambunctious, love to play, and will do their best to throw you to the ground even though they don't mean to. LOL

Very active. VERY. Most apartment complexes have a weight limit anyway and you would definitely be over for most places with an English bulldog. Frenchies are rambunctious as well but weigh less than the English but are still over most weight limits.

When it comes to French & English bulldogs, think of a bull in a china cabinet.

man, i was under the assumption that they were pretty chill dogs. How are they with other dogs (like a big boxer)

They (and now I'm talking more about English bulldogs) have a very nice temperament. Very friendly dogs. They're also very protective dogs and are attention seekers. They're also much more active than people believe them to be.

Personally, I wouldn't put an English Bulldog in a home with a boxer unless the boxer was the only other dog in the household and was an older dog and the bulldog was a pup. More than that one older dog and it will be a very big handful. Well, it will be a handful anyway because of the high activity of the bulldog.

I could speak for hrs on the subject having owned two for the last 9 yrs, but just to summerize do your research and buy the most healthy dog you can pay up front because it's much less than what trips to the vets will cost you. They don't take heat well so keep them cool pretty much and indoor dog. They're sweet and have a ton of personality. They stink and shedd like crazy. They can have ton of health issues and can be relitively healthy depends on the dog. I think a smaller framed B dog is more ideal less stress on the animal 40 to 45 lb is optimal imo but you would have to go with a female for that size. I also have an American Bulldog and he is the best, mellow with a huge head muscluar and friendly best dog I've ever owned, Also if you do the research there seem to be quite a number of bulldog type breeds, the main three though are French Bulldog, aka Frenchies Then American Bulldogs and of course English Bulldogs

from what i've heard Bulldogs have been inbred like crazy to the point where they come with a slew of health problems

boo, not helping my decision. well i guess i could stray from the b-dog idea. What are some other good small apartment dogs? (but not little fluffy and/or rat dogs)

what about an American Bulldog? I'd say mine gets spurts of energy, but definitely not a hyper-active dog. Bigger than English bulldogs, but females are only about 80lbs. Best dog I have ever had.

buy the AKC book on bulldogs.

my g/f bought it for me and i would've been lost without it. I'm actually waiting another year to get my bulldog, my schedule is too busy

ive been around a few english bulldogs that are super lazy and love to just lay in their bed most of the day.

i guess it depends on the parents.....
