Anyone have a 7100 blackberry? Or a treo 600?

About to get a blackberry for work and I am going to get one of these two.

Any comments between the two?

Camera is irrelevant to me..

And I am an extremely well versed predictive texter.

Blackberry rules . Friend of mine owns three cingular stores, can have any phone he wants, sold his treo and uses the bb now . Link it with outlook and get rid of your day planner . gprs works everywhere in Louisiana.I like mine , takes time talking into what looks like a calculator, but I got used to it . bluetooth an earpiece.

push email with chattermail now on the treo, email is just as usable as the blackberry.

and with palmos, much more functional and versatile as well.

You got me on the existence of chattermail, I've never seen it. But it looks kludgy.

Their SSL implementation looks flaky, I'll take triple-DES, thank you very much.

What about Contacts? Calendar? Notes? Can you sync that wirelessly?

It's still just a client. IMAP at that. You don't see the tight integration with Exchange/Domino that you do with a good BES setup. I can tell you you won't see any Fortune 500 companies rolling out enterprise versions of chattermail. Maybe GoodLink...do they have a GoodLink client for Treos yet? Their enterprise server isn't half bad.

Basically, if you want a toy with some contact/scheduling management and basic email functionality, get a Treo. If you want a business tool that allows you to do everything your desktop messaging client can, the blackberry is the way to go. They're not even on the same plane of functionality.

The Treo 650 lets you wirelessly sync contacts, calendars and email using Exchange ActiveSync.

Highly recommended. I hate the Blackberry interface and went with the Treo myself.

EAS is not true push. It requires SMS to initiate data transfer.

I will get the next generation blackberry the day it comes out. Its pretty good now but i think the next gen will be incredible.

EAS will not sync contacts with the Treo 650, and the only SMS required is if you have AUTD enabled which would require a PPC device.

I'm not sure what you mean by "true push" but if you set it to update every 10 minutes, every 10 minutes it connects via the cell line directly to the exchange server and syncs up with no SMS involved (I could be wrong here). If you have AUTD set up, i KNOW it sends an SMS message every time an email is received at the exchange server

Just for the record, I run my own Exchange server and I have a Treo 600.

I use Chattermail and I get the email on my Palm before I get it in Outlook on a machine sitting on the same network as my server.

I have a , it's a pretty nice phone. I've been getting some errors lately with it though, getting it RMA'd with Palm. My next phone will be one that has Windows mobile on it. Great OS, and it runs fantastically.

I was referring to the "I have a , " part of the post... and whether it is a treo 600 or 650 makes a bit of difference

Ok, I just set up one of my last hold-out clients with a Treo with Chattermail. It's pretty cool, but like I said, flaky. I had to reinstall 3 times to create an SMTP profile that didn't reset the Treo when composing a new message. I understand a single guy wrote the program, and that's impressive, but it can't compare with blackberry. The ability to upload sent messages back to your server is very nice as well.

Oh yeah, and just for fun, I'll drop this link in here as well:
It's coming. Bye bye PalmOS.

I am now demoing 5 treo 650's with goodlink server 4.0. It was so easy to setup and is true push with very high encryption (AES I believe). So far I like it better than blackberry. I will sometimes get the email on the troe before outlook.
