I think you mis-spoke since the original Escape was also a car based.

Yes. It derived from the Mazda 626 platform. The original Escape was definitely a crossover SUV, and front wheel drive based.

After having it for a few weeks I really like this car. It's easy to drive, moves well and has great visibility.

I am very pleased with the extremely comfortable drivers seat. This seat feels like it was built for me.

I took it camping 2 weeks ago. It was tight but it fit 4 people with gear. Bags, tents, coolers, food, other nonsense. Packed to the brim, but we got it all in there.

The Ford MyTouch is very cool. There was a learning curve but now I'm poking around it pretty quickly. At first I was not able to operate the car safely while using it, now I'd say it feels as safe as traditional controls. A few complaints, it has crashed on me twice. Once, I had to "reboot" the car to get it to work again; the other time it came back on it's own after a few minutes. The main problem seems to be the iPod integration. Whenever it acts funny it's while I'm plugging the iPod in, or unplugging it. Something is just not quite right there.
