Anyone have a 2010 or 2011 Subaru Outback?

It is still pretty true. Just having the AWD drivetrain is a disadvantage. Their old ass 4speed automatic doesn't help either.
30 MPG for a spacious AWD wagon with a 175HP four-cylinder that is based on a 20 year old design is pretty good actually.

But yeah, the 4-speed auto is tragic. I know, I have one of 'em.

Yeah, it's been one reason I haven't seriously looked at Subaru til now. They are so slow to adopt new(heck even old) technology. I was surprised that they even jumped to CVT.

Subaru offered a CVT in the early 90's in the Justy, so really they're one of the first.

They did come out with some "all-new" NA motors; the 2.5 in the 2011 Forester and there will be a new 2.0L in the Impreza that supposedly are a lot more efficient than the outgoing design. Realize they've basically been using variations of the same design for about 20 years I believe.

The 2.5L gets a timing chain instead of a belt and the 2.0L is more compact, but otherwise unimpressive. I'm expecting it will make their vehicles competitive, but not exceptional.
