WAAAAAAAAAAAAY better cars for the money...especially if you buy new.

If you are deadset on it, buy a year used and save AT LEAST $5,000. Resale on any GM product with the exception of full sized pickups SUCK!

my boss has one. He doesnt like it. He now wishes that he would have gotten a mid 80's sedan/tank and used that until he saved up enough money for a luxury car.

I have a friend who got one because he really didn't have much other choice (was using a GM credit card and built up a lot points towards a GM car.) He likes his okay, but he says his is surpisingly underpowered (at least in his opinion) for V6. I don't think it's that bad looking of a car and it's actually quite nice inside. I just personally wouldn't buy one new. I'd let somebody else take the resale hit and then buy a one year old one if that's the route you're going to take.

Consumer Reports Best and Worst Buys

Worst: Chevy Malibu.

Bottom line: it has the typical GM craptastic interior. Hard plastics, poor quality materials, and will be squeeking and a rattling in a matter of months. I've read that the Malibus are notorious for chewing through brake pads and rotors. And the rest of the car is subjected to GM's spotty build quality. It shows too. The second you sign the dotted line for that car, you'll probably loose 40% of it's value.

My opinion - Look at the Nissan Altima S for the same price. It uses a 4cyl, but it's actually as quick, if not quicker than the Malibu. Is incredibly more roomy, and has a lot more style and reliability to it.

Other options would be the typical Accord or Camry. Honda dealers should be really starting to discount their cars to clean up inventory for the new '03 Accords coming in this summer.

If you are going to buy new...please...please...please don't buy a Malibu if you have any concern for your cars value.

^^ right on ^^

Malibus are good rental cars... a car that you'll drive a few times and never see again.

You should buy vi_edits GTI 😉

Read for yourself. There is a powerful hate vibe running in a lot of the reviews.

The Impala would probably be the better choice, but you should do yourself a favor and check out an Accord LX or SE and an Altima 2.5 S.
