Since my area is too far away to get Qwest DSL, and I'm thinking of getting broadband connection. I have a choice of Cable One cable modem or Direct TV DSL, which one is a better choice?

As many have said it before and will say it some more.. It usually depends on your area. No two areas are identical and some places tend to have better cable internet service than DSL and vice a versa.

I have had experience with Ameritech DSL installation in a bad way but that is on the East coast. I am not sure if they use PPPoE where you are at but if they do.. run.. run far away.. its not the easiest to install and the techs trying to get the DSL line I was attempting to install couldn't quite get the lines even provisioned correctly or the software to communicate correctly.

Ususally your not locked into a contract so the best you could do is try both and see what you like.

Wish I could offer a better answer but for the Cable vs. DSL debate there is and probably won't be one right answer for a long long time..

This is not "regular" DSL. I'm talking about Direct TV DSL, you know, the one with a dish that get data from the sky :). I have checked Direct TV website. All I see are the benefits. But nothing about the average download or upload speed?

I don't know about DirectTV DSL then I guess.. I was under the impression that what you are speaking about is Sattelite connection not DSL. DSL is a broadband over copper technology and I don't see how you can do it through the sky and still call it DSL.

Are you sure DirectTV isn't doing a typical DSL service? I am not 100% sure but my points from the previous post still stands.. give it a try and let US know :)

If it truley is through the air then your biggest concerns are latency not the bandwidth.

direct tv is just regular DSL through your phone lines
if qwest cant give you DSL, direct tv probably cant either, but it wont hurt to call them

the 2 way satelite is different, dont get it unless u have no other highspeed alternatives.
its expensive and slow compared to other broadband choices.

start up costs are $600 and $60 /mo for service
here is more info for satellite service
