like it or not, I wanna know is there any real competitor to Apple's Ipod.

I know the ones from Creative are pretty popular... but I never know about the actual functioniality and user-friendliness (both hardware and software). So I wanna hear some comments from you guys.

There are other apps that allow you to use the iPod without iTunes.

Anyways OP, I think iAudio is supposed to make good products, liek the iAudio X5

seconded.... if only wmp would add podcasting support itunes will be gone from my computers. the new wmp11 is so far ahead of itunes other than not having podcasting. but i really like the way wmp11 uses the coverart to show your music.

ah ha. thanks..

after looking at Newegg, the price is very good compare to a similar sized (gb) Ipod Nano.

also, isn't there a firmwire hack for the Ipods? (this will mostly likely be a non-issue for me, since I am not too confidence in hacking it)

My phone doubles up as a mp3 player and radio...I hate lugging around 10 electronics for 10 different things.. I am fine with using that, but then I am not the biggest of music fans...

i've had an old creative nomad zen (20gb, firewire) and an iriver h340 (40gb). i prefer them both to my ipod nano (4gb), although the rockbox firmware improves on a lot of the problems of the nano (ogg vorbis and FLAC support, can be treated as an external drive to just drag and drop songs [no need for itunes or ephpod!]).

I have multiple MD Discman, CD Discman, and one Video iPod. The CD Discman, Sony D-NE20, sounds best. But it's too bulky for my taste. I really should've bought the iPod Nano.

I love my SE W810, I got myself a 2gb produo card and a 2mp camera. It carries my contacts and calendar. No need to carry so much stuff around!

If you don't care about the color screens and video support and whatnot, my iRiver h120 suits me great for music. It plays mp3, wma, ogg, and wav, has an fm tuner, great sound quality, and is easy to use as an external HD. Plus you can load up 3rd party firmware for other features if you want. That's kind of old school though, so I think the 5th gen iPod is really a winner with it's improved SQ.

I have a 35gig IAudio mp3/video player. Everyone I know thinks it is better than an ipod, and a couple have gone out and gotten their own.

I have the same, almost. The I-Audio X-5. I love it, beat anything like it at the time and still beats most.

I've got a Creative Zen Xtra and I love it. I even like the interface better than the Ipod's and I've won over a couple friends with it.

I have a Zen Sleek 20Gb and the GF has a 4th Gen iPod. I like the Zen better, due to sound quality, easier movement of files and the FM radio.

I have one of the cheaper Creative MuVo players, and I love it. I suppose it would be more on the level with an iPod Shuffle but it cost less and has much, much more functionality.
Many of my friends have some i-River products and they speak very highly of them.

I have the Creative Zen MicroPhoto and I think it's pretty good. It has 8gb, FM radio, very small, and supports WMA files which I needed.
