I'm assuming you tried ffdshow?

/edit: also try the Nvidia Purevideo deocder (30 day trial) if you are running compatible hardware./

I thought FFDshow is not a decoder? more of like image enhancement thingie?

Man, that's so strange. Only the 6600 cards can do H.264 decoding while the 6800 versions can't. That blows.

hey guys I have another issue.. this might be related to my crappy vid card

sometimes whenever I start the media center I get blank screen, and my computer freezes as well. What might cause this? my vid card is the crappy one that came with my dell (radeon x300 or x200)

This can be a number of problems... is it freezing while it's trying to read your DVD drive? Perhaps a driver issue. Or you have software that's conflicting (i've had a similar problem with alcohol and Dell's version of MCE). A fresh install is the only way to really know whether it's the card or not (highly doubt it, unless you're experiencing other issues with the card).
