anyone happen to know about the LOTR: Extended Box set?

the entire collection of the LOTR movies is gonna be released soon (14th i think)
my family is a big fan of the movies, but we don't own a single one
i'm thinking of getting the 3 movie extended version box set and i'm just wondering if its the full screen or widescreen?
cuase it don't say at either walmart.com or amazon.com
both are the same price though, and I think, for the 3 movies, and extras etc, 77 might be a big high.. anyone know a better deal?
