Anyone Had Something Sent International Surface Mail?

I know it takes a lot longer than Airmail, but is it safe/reliable?

I am bidding on a part for my bike on Ebay from UK.
Difference in Surface mail to Airmail is considerable, time is not an issue as I will not be riding until spring anyway....but I am nervous about it taking so long and getting lost along the way.

I wouldnt trust ANYTHING that takes 8-10 weeks to get to me. Too much time for something to go wrong.

My girlfriends parents sent her a parcel from the US to france by surface mail two septembers ago. Then they sent another parcel by air in the middle of december. The second parcel arrived first, by a long shot, buy both parcels got there ok. If you've got the patience, then I think surface mail should be fine.

If its an expensive part then, whatever shipping method you use, make sure that you get insurance - I think its pretty cheap with the royal mail (UK postal service).

I sent myself a package from Hong Kong to Florida without a hitch. Took almost two months though.

I guess the only problem with having it sent by an Ebay seller is that by the time 2 months passes, if there is a problem, Ebay are not going to want to know (like they ever do)
