I had one done 4 years ago. If it has slowed my libido down, I can't tell. My wife and I still have sex on average of 4 to 5 times a week. Nothing to worry about there.

At the procedure, there is a small incision made on each side of the scrotum, and the vas is clipped. Some docs will clamp the end, and some will burn it closed. The actual clipping hurts... kinda like getting kicked, but it passes quickly. The doc I saw offered a shot of valium to reduce 'anxiety'. I had it done on a Friday morning, and took the day off from work. I spent the afternoon in bed with an ice pack and the tv remote. I was advised that until all of the sperm currently in my system were removed, I was still fertile. There was a follow up visit about 2 weeks later to make sure that everything was clear.

All in all, it was no big deal.

The plumbing doctor is a urologist, and it cost me about $400. Insurance took care of most of the cost.

Took it real cool for the week as per docs instructions but I don't think I needed to, but better safe than risk complications. Going to the dentist is worse.

It's good that you took it easy. A friend of mine had one, and mowed the yard the next day. His wife said he could hardly walk later, because he swelled up pretty good.

I want it but all of the girls I know sound so horrified at the prospect of me getting it that I have second thoughts.... If there was a safe and 90% sure fire way to reverse it, i'd jump at it

Heh...well a few years back I saw a live taping of a vasectomy REVERSAL on the learning channel or something. The vasectomy itself isn't bad but I would NOT want to get one reversed after looking at that procedure! Make damned sure it's what you want to do. ;)

yes, in 1999 i got mine.

for me it hurt like a bitch, especially when she clamped my vas. i about came off the table, felt like a baseball bat just nailed me right in the nuts.

afterwards, i sat around on the couch with a bag of frozen peas on my sack, while my wife pampered me like a king.

had some swelling, sack got to be about a big as a softball for a few days then it was over. some twinges of pain when i sat down too fast or got up too fast.

other than that, no problems, and orgasms feel exactly the same. if anyting my sex drive has gone up. now i dont have to worry about impregnation

Does it change the consistency of your man juice? I always wondered what it would do to the actual ejaculate. I am seriously thinking about getting this done as I don't need any more kids than the 2 I already have. Although my wife just hinted that she would like another soon.

thats exacly why i got one. 2 kids at 23, one boy one girl. thats what i wanted, so i was done. i figured since she gave birth to them, the least i could do was take one simple surge and get snipped.

best thing i ever did. nice not to have to worry about it. and if she gets pregnant, we have a problem.;)

fixed

my doctor advised "no sex for 2 wks, and bring this cup back with a test load in it". if misfits buddy went back and had it tested and he was in the clear, he needs to go back and get another test for live ones to be sure.

There is no change.

Man... that's rough. Mine didn't even require stitches.

I had the same experience. Mine was done 10.5 years ago, it hurt like hell. I had no drugs, only an local so that I would not feel the sack get cut. When they put the clamps on, OMFG!! I was out of action for weeks. I did go back to work 3 days later but I could have used an entire week of recuperation I think.

To be fair, that dude went thru his procedure about 10 yrs ago. But I agree - it's a very visceral read! =)

Visceral. And hysterical. I know I shouldn't laugh at the misfortune/discomfort of others, but that was just funny.

Uh...no. It's not that complicated a procedure to where any doc worth his salt would eff it up. Your friend has been cuckolded.

Remember TripleShot, on these forums? That's how he got his name. Snipped and still the wife had triplets. DNA tested and everything, were his kids.

Basically my experience (even having sex with his wife 4-5 times a week) :p

No big deal, easy procedure, mucho rewards after getting it done. I cant believe any male would put his wife through a tubal ligation before getting his nuts snipped...thats just screwed up.

wtf? There are doctors out there who don't believe in novacaine?
I had it done, no pain at the time because of novacaine or whatever was injected down there. I really didn't care what they were doing, because the nurse said "30cc doctor?" and he said "make it 60, he looks pretty nervous" I don't recall the exact dosage, but it was doubled, or more than doubled. I was pretty happy for quite a while.

Recovery: piece of cake. I had codeine to take for pain but never used them.

edit: I had ice for a little while to keep the nads comfy... After about 30 minutes I decided that frozen balls weren't comfortable. I had the procedure done on a Friday morning and went to work at the pizza shop that night. (yeah, I'm that tough! Really, it wasn't bad at all. The frozen balls were bad. There IS such a thing as too much ice. Wife was pissed that I went to work. They occasionally still hang up the picture of me with a sign next to me that says "neutered" - I was caught off-guard for the picture.

Wife probably was hoping it'd do something for my sex drive - namely to decrease it. But I can assure you, that wasn't a problem.

Birth control should be used for a month at least. After stitches are removed all is good. I don't regret doing it.

Just curious, what happens after the procedure? Do you shoot blank now (mucous ejaculate minus sperms) or do you shoot nothing at all?

In all seriousness dude, there's no good reason why she should be snipped, and not you. Vasectomies are an outpatient procedure, you're a bit sore and that's it; tubal ligation is a major, riskier surgury.

Oh, and Peetoeng, you just shoot blanks; as far as anyone would be able to tell without a microscope, there's no difference.

And for everyone else, here's Wikipedia's entry on Vasectomies.

Agreed. When the time comes, it's me that's going under the knife. Easier, and it's often undoable.
