Went to the dentist today, and he said that I have to have all my wisdom teeth removed. He said I could either have it done there, 1 at a time with novacaine, or I could go to this other guy and be knocked out and have them all done at the same time. I think I will go for the latter since I have never had the laughing gas treatment, 10..9..zzz.
Anyway, who has had this done, and how much pain am I going to be in after it is all over with? Thanks for the heads up!

It's not delightful at all. I was knocked out but it was so annoying for awhile.

Bad breath, very annoying dull pain. Will keep you up at night.

Just get it over with as soon as possible.

I just got mine out in June....I was knocked out and had all 4 removed. Very little pain, cause they gave me vicodin to take, but it sucked cause I was always tired(due to the vicodin), and I couldn't eat anything solid. The first few hours suck, you'll be really thirsty, but its hard to drink cause you can't feel your entire mouth :) I literaly had to like guide the cup into my mouth with the other hand :)

I advise you guys to do a search for my thread about when I took out my wisdom teeth taken out. Title was "Wisdom teeth: the bane of a good summer" or something like that. I guess of a good week would have been a better choice.

Anyway, depends on the person and the doctor. Some get it easy, some get it hard.

I had it done about 9 years ago and it was no big deal. They gave me intravenous valium, which is weird in that you are actually awake the whole time, but you feel no pain and black out the whole process - I have no memory of the operation. As long as you follow the aftercare recommendations, there are no significant after-effects or pain. I had 4 wisdom teeth taken out and never experienced any pain at all.

On a related note, a friend of mine actually had 6 wisdom teeth! His dentist said the weirdest part was not the 4 wisdom teeth he had on the bottom but the huge ones he had on top - I guess he is the missing link!

I got one 3 years ago. It was awful.. get all 4 yanked at once. I had local anaesthesia since I have to drive my own. Two days of bleeding.. Got to have lots of ice. my face was swolen for a week. Prepare a lot of easy to eat meal, like oatmeal, porridge or mashed potato. I have to cook my own.. thursday or friday should be good to do it , so you can rest over the weekend. Friday is the best.

It actually depends on the dentist as well on how was it. Because yanking the teeth is not as simple as 1,2,3.

Umm, I need to save money since I'm going to college next year. Thats why I did it the hard way. The cheap way. I never really did explain in my thread why I didn't get put to sleep... Oh well, I did now.

Had all 4 done at once. Sawed in half and pulled out in 8 pieces total.

Bled like a stray cat...a stray cat who'd just had all four wisdom teeth removed

I think the moral of the story is, get a full-body anaesthetic. Again, this was no big deal at all for me, and I had 4 wisdom teeth. It was honestly less traumatic than a few haircuts I have had over the years!

I got them ripped out when i was like.....in the 9th grade. my 12 year molars or whatever they're called wouldnt grow in cause the wisdom teeth were blocking em so they had to dig into my *($%)#@ gums and tear them out. It sucked~!!!

I had my two located in my lower jaw pulled a few years back. Got local anaesthesia and was conscious the whole time. The numbness went away after about four hours and it kinda hurt for another six hours.

Same here...all teeth are fine and won't be pulled out until it hurts!!!

But beware, it also depends on the dentist (wisdom teeth operation = money).
When only one of my WTs was half out five years ago, one dentist said looking at the X-Ray: Oh, we gotta have to get em out, cause they don't come out straight...
Oh, oh I thought, but over the time (went abroad after this examination) I simply forgot about this stuff...

Now the teeth are out perfectly and my current dentist (moved to new city) says: Oh, the teeth are all fine, why pull them out and waste healthy teeth?

Conclusion: The first dentist really was a money crazy a$$hole. If the teeth want to get out, they let you know...
Take care and all the best for your surgery... :)
