Anyone got the P4 1.8a GHZ northwood yet? Want to know what this bad boy can do. Seems like Intel only release retail version for this chip. Thinking of getting one.

If you got one, please share.

Thanks!

I second that question! I am thinking of getting 2, one for my PC and one for the wife's. I am just waiting to see if the 1.8A(400FSB) will run at 2.4(533FSB) with retail cooling and default voltage. That would be sweet!

Yes, I am really interested to see how the 1.8A overclocks. I would imagine one could get it to at least 2.2. This is not bad at all considering you can get a 1.8A for $215!

I will be getting mine tomorrow with my new Gigabyte GA-8IRXP. I will let you know what happens... I really want to achieve 2.4 at the 133 bus speed but we will see. I have heard people that were able to get this but I might need a better heatsink and fan.

I will let you know more this weekend if all goes well.

I've got the 1.8A sitting here in the P4T-E.

Air cooling, default voltage, now at 2.1GHz or so....I haven't even pushed it yet.

I just ordered mine from Newegg. I'd been waiting for them to finally get them in stock, it'w ierd cause Newegg is usually one of the first to get new things in, but this time they were one of the last.

I bumped it to 133, but it wouldn't boot....certainly not at default voltage or 4x RDRAM multiplier anyway.

I haven't tried it at higher voltage or played with the RDRAM multiplier.

I need some program to check PCI speed though, so I'm actually running at 18 x 115 (2.070GHz) at the moment.

That no boot at 133 is probrably one of 2 things. I have seen on most boards that a little extra voltage was required in order to get 2.4 stable. I am not sure about RDRAM handling the 133 bus, I have avoided it up to this point.

I'm thinking that the 1.6A will be a very good overclocker too, for very little money... If I could get one to hit 133MHz bus, then do you know if it's possible to lock the PCI and AGP buses down to specced speeds on an i845D board like the ABIT BD7??

I am firing up a 2.0A tonight on a ABIT TH7II-RAID board (i850). I'll post my results for reference. I am most likely going to see how far I can go at default voltage and stop there for a while. I have heard that I should be able to get to 2.5 or 2.6 pretty easy.

Well, FedEx says it was delivered (release waiver signed) so I will see when I get home this evening. If everything is in order, I will put it together tonight and I will post my results later tonight or tomorrow... stay tuned. :)

I currently have a 1.8a at 2.7ghz, this was on an abit SD7-533, which is the worst board i have come across, now getting an Abit BD7. The SD7 is more like a beta board, with Agp issues, faulty sound, faulty usb, etc.

I did a quick 3dmark bench on it to prove stability, compare url is here and cpuid shot is here

This was achieved at 1.7v.

I opted for the Gigabyte 8irxp for a few reasons.

I am tired of Via and miss the stability and flexibility of the old school Intel BX chipset. That rules out damn near all the other options. Via I don't like due to my KT133, KT133A, KT266A experiences. Good chipset if you were willing to work at it. SiS I don't know enough about to trust.

So those are the reasons for the i845 chipset. As far as why Gigabyte:

USB2, RAID133, Intel NIC, average onboard sound, and STABILITY. Both Anand and Tom loved the board. The MSI I didn't go for because I have had 3 DOA MSI boards and just don't trust there QA.

The Gigabyte has the highest available VCore settings, and that goes a long way. I will let you know how things go.

That is a MASSIVE OC!!! What type of cooling do you use?

Its still using the stock intel heatsink and fan, thinking about getting the Avc sunflower. It does 2.4 at default quite happily, it even runs it at 1.45v, as the sis board undervolt.
