I have a really simple one that doesn't respond particularly well so it lost its appeal pretty early on. I would imagine ones that are more precise in their controls hvae more appeal and probably more expensive.

Not a pro by any means, but I've been into Rc cars, Nitro and Electric for 15+ years.
You can say I'm a fast learner
Hovering at first is a must for a beginner. Just get used to the controls, then go wild.

I'm not doubting that, but I say just dive in learn. Oh, and be prepared to spend some cash on parts.
Some say to buy a cheapy for $100.-- $200. , but that can buy a few crash landings right there, and you already own a decent Heli.

Sinking 2k+ into a totally custom Tamiya Clodbuster 12 years ago, I can surely afford a Heli.
It had the alluminum gearcases and steel gears, full bearings, clodzilla suspension, 8 oil filled shocks, super fast motors (cannot remember what turn#'s), Grave Digger body.... the whole works.
And what happens? I wind up getting talked into selling the damn thing for $750! right before the move before last.
IN to FL, now in TN= I'm RCless and miss it like crazy!

well not trying to be overly negative or anything, just suggesting that you start with something involving a smaller learning curve. who knows though, you might be a natural and be able to completely skip that step. so instead i will suggest you do more research. maybe ask people at your local hobby shop.
