A friend of mine has Mame X and tried to copy it on a cdrw. He says that he did everything correctly but can not get it to work on his Xbox. Has anyone successfully got Mame X to work on a cdrw? I understand that the laser on the Xbox doesn't read cdrs as well as cdrws, but also that if possible then you should copy to dvdr/rw?

I was just curious cause I'm looking for some people's experiences with it.

He's not using a mod chip. According to him he doesn't have to have a mod chip to run it.
I don't know cause I haven't looked into it myself but I was wondering what other people came up with from their experience.

You definitly need a modchip to run it. The bios of the xbox is set to not run any homegrown software without a chip in it

yeah you have to have a modchip, nothing other than official xbox games will run without it.

The very first public release was built using Microsoft's XDK, so I think that's why it didn't need a modchip. Unfortunately, this is illegal as hell, so the MAME-X and MAME developers were contacted by Microsoft and this release was immediately pulled from the web. Oops.
