I've got it, can't decide if I like it yet or not. You're right, it does start slow. Kind of annoying the guys and girl characters look pretty much the same.

No, it's FFIII that was released in Japan. It has never been released in the US until this DS remake.

Yea I think a lot of people are getting confused by the title and thinking it's FFVI. I wish it was that game, it's OK, but that would have been much better.

not a DS version, it's being re-released for the GBA.

they'll add a spattering of new content, but they'll leave the game the same, essentially. Maybe they'll re-do the script.

One thing I'm not liking about FFIII so far is that when you are running around a lot of the maps, the top screen is just blank. No map up there, which would be a huge help, or even just a status screen would be nice.

People should have gotten FF5 on Gameboy advance ... that game is so much better than any other FF game ;( the game play is what it makes it so special.

o cool, it'll be nice if they really did make some changes, unlike the PSX version where they only added a cinematic beginning...

I missed my first big fight that closes the intro section of the game because I took some wrong turns in a dungeon (and backtracking through dungeons can be a big PITA since you get constantly attacked). The DS is perfect for zone mapping and status stuff but the developers dropped the ball. Would be nice also to have some sort of quest/storyline status window. Still, despite the problems, I've had a great time playing it for the four hours I've spent with it so far.

Yea, a quest log would be nice as well. There are of a lot of little development things with this game that make me go "Huh???" They spent all that time completely overhauling how the game looks, but just left a lot of stuff out. The lack of a decent map really kills it.

Yes, it has a world map, but there are no detailed maps in the various areas. When you are running around in a city, or in a dungeon or whatever, the top screen is black. I don't want to give anything away to people who haven't played that far, but there are plenty of areas where the top screen is blank, and you are running around trying to figure out if you've been to a certain area. It get frustrating backtracking trying to decide if you went to a particular area, and you keep being hit with random encounters.

But it was almost completely redone for the DS. They ported it to the US, completely redid the graphics, basically made a new game out of it. Why not actually use the DS's capabilities? At the very least, a frigging status screen at the top would be nice. It's stupid to see the top screen totally black for 75% of the game. Don't get me wrong, I'm having a lot of fun with the game, but they could have done so much more with it. It doesn't even feel like a DS game, it feels like I'm playing a GBA game on the DS the way they basically ignored the second screen except for cutscenes.
