Currently have 3mb/512k Adelphia cable Internet which is nice and all but I am wondering if it's really worth $42.95 a month. Only other options they have is 256k/128k for $24.95 a month. Which that price is much better but how would 256k be for online gaming?

Anyone got these speeds?

How good is your downloading/online gaming? Wish I could get DSL :(.

Uh.... consider how fast you upload. Slow as hell, right? Now cut that in half and imagine DOWNLOADING that fast (slow). Then cut it in half AGAIN and imagine that being your upload.

For $25 per month? Fvck that ****** right up! :frown:

Jeezus Adelphia sure knows how to rape their customers, and I thought Comcast was bad on pricing. I get twice that download (sometimes faster) for the same price from Comcast.

I thought 256k was kinda odd when I asked if they offered slower speeds. I know 256k ain't nothing special but I was mainly wondering how gaming would be on it.

I've never heard of any ISP offer broadband lower than 512k. Maybe she's wrong about the speed?

Have you ever heard of ISDN? It's 128k up/down. My cousin owns a local dialup/ISDN/DSL ISP and they sell ISDNs for, like, nothing per month.

My grandpa has that plan (but DSL). It's alrioght for simple email, posting to forums, gaming, etc. If you're a heavy internet user like a normal ATOT poster, it will be too slow for you.

Verizon DSL is cheaper and is (usually) capped at 768 down. why would you even consider 256 down?

I used to have 256/128 DSL, and in CSS a good ping would be 50-80. Now I have 1.5/256 DSL and a good ping is 25-50. Not much difference in XBOX Live.

You'll regret it, playing BF2 you'll probably ping 300+ and get your ass kicked every time you join a server.
Note to anyone considering FiOS, it sucks. At least it did at my friend's place, 3 of us were playing BF2 on the connection (all connected to the router, no WiFi) and we were all pinging 150+.

That doesn't make sense. The base plan on FiOS has 1 megabit upload speeds. I think something else must've been going on.

I got 256k DSL and I pay $80 a month. :(
It's hard to play online FPSes if your family members are browsing other pages.
I usually download files at 50-70kb/s

Rogers Cable (my ISP) offers:

Ultra light - 128 Kbps download and 64 Kbps upload

Light - 1.0 Mbps download and 128 Kbps upload

Express - 5.0 Mbps download and 384 Kbps upload

Extreme - 6.0 Mbps download and 800 Kbps upload

I use express and it is the best bargain of the bunch for online gaming.

the first broadband internet I had at home was a verizon DSL setup and I was very disappointed. According to them I was too far away from the central office and my 768K actually turned out to be around 300K. Once we moved up to cable, we haven't looked back. My wife and I aren't gamers and basically use the internet for browsing and the occasional file download. When we had DSL my wife would complain about how slow it was. If she complains about 300K, you know it's slow.
