anyone gonna sit this round of video cards out?

seeing how the cards are having trouble making it to market with price gouging and low avalability rapant and nvidia was showing off NV45 at computex and PCI - Express (useless as it is, but would be cool to say that you have it) is just over the horizon, are you gonna wait till next gen?

I'll probably wait til next gen to buy the previous gen 😛
Cheap x800 pros and 6800 GTs. Yum.

First thing I would have to do if was going to go the Ati route is up-grade my OS from Win98se because of no new Catalyst drivers for Win98se. And I would suspect no DX9c support for Win98se either(? not sure) so that would knock out any ideas for a 6800 series too.

Besides which, my 9500>9700hack seems to do pretty well considering. A little less eye-candy or some mid 20's FPS stuttering for a few seconds is not worth all the worry IMHO.

I did vote for waiting 2 months however, as untill the smoke has cleared a bit, I may decide otherwise.

I'll sit this round out until the fall.
I haven't had a game yet that i play that has made me think of upgrading.
My 5900XT will hold me over till fall or more.
The only high-end game out right now (far cry) doesn't interest me, so i'm good for now. 🙂
I would love a newer card, but the software needs to catch up first.

i felt the same way until i ran into farcry, i'm expecting the same from chernobyl

R500 for me. I figure by that time Xbox2 will be out, and the newer games may be ports from that. They would more than likely require DX10. My 9700PRO is still kicking just fine.

I'll see what's available around december. I'll build a new computer @ that time, so it will be a good time to upgrade and it will allow these cards, the 939 socket, as well as the PCI-E situation, to settle a bit.

-D'oh!

you'd have to be a man of will to sit another round out...

i don't think i can do that, i'm weak 😉. sat through FX series as i felt they were unworthy for me to spend any money on IMO, but i don't think i can resist the current generation when they're finally all shipped and avilable and competing for sales

I've got a 9800 pro and don't want to spend a bunch of money on a new card anytime soon. I DO wish I'd waited another month before I bought the Pro though...could have saved $50.

so if we already have an x800p, plan on getting one, or plan on getting a 6800/6800GT, that mean's we're sitting this round out?

Yeah, same here. I'm definitely waiting until prices stabilize and there are retail 6800 cards out to judge. I may even end up waiting until I switch over to a PCI-E-based system (which would mean NV45/R480 at least), although if HL2 and/or Doom3 lays the smack down on my 9800Pro, I may have to reconsider. 😛

i don't plan to upgrade until i'm out of college, probably december '05 - just got a 9800 np and it works fine for everything including farcry (which i didn't even think was that great of a game neway)

Yeah me too... sitting out on the sidelines for this round. Next upgrade in the fall or later...

One more month and I should have my tax return. That's long enough for a great socket 939 Mobo to come out (nForce3 250GB) and hopefully a more stable ATI driver.

Will have to see.

I'm prepared to sit this round out. Now that my P4 3ghz is getting a little long in the tooth, I'm contemplating a whole system upgrade.

I was prepared to sit it out..... then I installed Far Cry last week. When I had to turn down some video options to run it at 1280X1024 I knew my 9800pro was destined for a backup pc..🙁

another happy 9800Pro owner; Far Cry plays fine on it. Not everything is turned up, but i play at 1600x1200 and get just fine frames with most settings at high.

Some times we don't realise how good we have it, which keeps us looking down the road instead of enjoying what we have. 🙂

I'll sit this one out, my 5900 is kicking for now, plus the whole PCI-E smoke bomb is making upgrades tough to plan.
