anyone go back to a dumbphone from a smartphone?

Four years ago I bought my first smartphone (myTouch3G) and 18 months in died. I bought a flip phone and stayed with it a year and a half. When TMo finally came out with an iPhone I bought a pair (unlocked).

The myTouch3G was a toy back then and after the first six months found little use for it. When it died 18 months in I had no problems going back to a GSM-only phone. But the GSM network in the states is being turned down. So, GSM days are numbered.

My wife and I never got smartphones... We are still on a calling only plan that is around 9 years old and under $40 including taxes and fees for both phones combined. I tried pricing other plans. No one can match it.

Oh and no regrets. I despise smartphones. It was an economic decision at first, but now I see how they turn people into asocial zombies. Cannot stand being in a room with people all glued to their phones.

i have both a dumb and smartphone.
when im in da hood or doing extreme sport, i pop the sim out of the smartphone and into the dumbphone. i dont miss anything as im not addicted to a smartphone like all the people around, it seems.

I could do it if I had to. One advantage of a dumb phone is that it's smaller and fits in pants pocket. Good luck getting a modern smart phone to fit in jeans without it probably breaking, or being very uncomfortable when you sit.

Most dumb phones probably also run on CDMA, which is more reliable and more widespread. On Star actually uses CDMA for these reasons.

Up until a year ago I had used a dumbphone for many years!

I recently bought my wife a Galaxy S4 unlocked -- full price on Amazon!!

Even though she will never use anything but the phone and the camera.....it is what she wanted.

I have a $100 AT&T go-phone and that suffices for us!

I just switched to Consumer Cellular and we have 1000 minutes which we will never use in a month plus 2 lines for $40.00.

My wife can call Poland all she wants for 5 cents a minutes!!

We are very happy!!

I just switched to a smart phone from an old military spec flip phone. I miss the convenience of flipping it open and talking, and I really miss the durability. I have found a great deal of utility with the smart phone, but I could easily go back to a dumb phone and a small tablet. That might actually be a better option for me.

Entertained the idea of an iPod Touch coupled with a dumb phone for tethering, but then thought "why bother?"

Yes. I've gone from a smartphone to dumbphone and I don't regret it a bit. Longer battery life, smaller and don't have to worry about it breaking.

I finally broke down and got one a month ago. I'd been using a tracfone for years that I was paying around $10 a month for. With Ting I get a smart phone for those rare occasions when it comes in handy and it cost me $15 a month.

I still use a dumbphone, it does have a few advantages, much more durable, can go for days without going on the charger, I don't have to pay out the ass for expensive data plans, if it breaks it's $35 for another one and as already mentioned it actually fits in your pocket comfortably.

my phone is a near necessity for my work and great to kill time when waiting in line, etc.

i can empathize with the stubborn guys wanting to keep the "normal" phones, but they will realize after owning them for 2 months that they are WELL BEYOND trinkets. it's just such a useful set of tools to have in your belt. and if your in IT.... well just GTFO.
