Anyone getting Wii Fit this week?

Picked it up today. Looking forward to using it, if it can actually make you lose weight, whether it be 2 pounds a week or 2 pounds a month, it'll be worth sticking to.

I'm definitely sore today. I'm not finding too much value in the aerobics exercises as it just feels too unnatural to run in place and I dont really have the room to properly do the advanced step aerobics without kicking my tv in - the advanced part is definitely a lot more complicated. On the other hand, once you unlock more reps in the strength training exercises, theyre at the point where some of them completely destroy me, and they seem to get my heart pumping more than the aerobics do. The balance games dont give you much of a workout but they are pretty fun.

I have two main gripes with it at this point:

Theres just too much menuing and clicking. I'd love to be able to just preset a routine and go through it. But instead I've gotta choose a new exercise every 2-3 min, and over an hour it really adds up. You can control it entirely using the d-pad without pointing at the screen which helps, but I really dont care too much to flick through the scoring, etc And that leads me to my second issue.

Given that the only input is the balance board, the scoring seems very contrived in a lot of games. When youre doing leg extensions, is whether or not your foot is absolutely still really the most important thing? It doesnt really have much to go on, but even still, the scoring in many activities is completely irrelevant. Maybe even counterproductive in some ways, as it can be easy to cheat the game, but then youre only cheating yourself. Even though they do give you tips throughout the exercise, it still feels like it should be telling you more on how to get the proper form. Cause when youre doing these kinds of home exercises, form is practically everything. The BMI is misleading, and the wii fit age is stupid and useless.

So basically, its a great workout tool, but you need to be determined not to cheat yourself. The scoring is mostly irrelevant - whether or not your feeling the burn is key. I think there will come a point where once I'm familiar with the exercises, I might begin to turn on the actual game less, as it will probably just slow me down - but the progress tracking will always be useful, and thankfully, you dont even need the disc in the drive to do that.

Mine arrived today as well after stupid UPS delayed it for a day.

Seems fun so far, the wife really likes it. I can see it becoming another dust covered peripheral exercise machine though in the future if one isnt dedicated though.

Apparently it sold 650K copies in day one, making it Nintendo's biggest one day money maker in history.

holy batman that's recockulous!

I'm assuming most of those figures are from preorders being 'bought at launch.' I figure if you haven't already found one, (who shops on wednesday??) you probably wont' find one since the holiday weekend is coming up and this item will be in every paper... they will be sold out for a while until Nintendo can absorb the shock and rebound.

even ebay is running out.

2 days before launch, there were 200 for sale,
1 day of launch there were 800,
launch day there were 2000,
day 2 4000,
day 3 2500.

what this tells me is that tons of them were bought up at launch, posted on ebay... Stores sold out and people flocked to ebay, now ebay is selling out faster than people can list, with little to no restock being put up to fill the demand.

I got one yesterday. I think this game will be huge, and the shortages may be similar, if not worse than the actual Wii console.

Any word yet on future games to use the balance board? Would be cool to play SSX or Tony Hawk with it.

I would bet there's going to be another Wii Fit about a year from now, I'm sure Nintendo will fix all the issues people are having with the first run of Wii Fit, though that's what beta testing is for, right? 😛

I really work up a big sweat playing this. I'm glad there are so many exercises that help with good posture, i'm becoming a hunchback and need to straighten out my spine.

First day I played 30 min, next day I got on and it said I had gained 6 pounds 😛 - I must of ate more than I thought. So, that's a little off...

Also I agree there should be less menus going on. I logged in 32 minutes to wii fit today, which equaled out to 72 minutes total playtime, so right now more than half the time is spent doddling through the menus and learning how to do new exercises. I'm sure that'll go down though since I won't have to learn the same exercises over and over again. It only shows you how to do it the first time you try it, and you can skip it if you want. Can also have them repeat it if you ever forget.

I hope I force myself to stick to it for 3-6 months or so, I really want to see how much weight I can lose with this thing.

They do say that you should do the body test at roughly the same time every day due to fluctuations in the body's weight hwoever, 6lbs does seem quite a swing.

Glad to hear someone else enjoying the benefits. I havent been on recently because of an injured foot, using the board puts too much pressure on and its sore at the moment.

The posture building exercises and CoG aweareness is good. Definately improved mine.

all the circulars in my area showed wiifit for sale. I went to get them at the store for resale and I managed to only scrape up a couple out of the dozen stores I hit up since 8am.

most stores said they didn't even get them in for the Sunday sales. They weren't bought out, they just never arrived.
