Anyone getting a P4 2.8 when the price cuts take effect ??

just wondering

it looks like a nice upgrade for those of us on slower P4's

or should someone just wait for the .09 micron chips to hit prices ?

but the only board so far that i know of that supports the 478 pin prescott is the p4c800-e

i haven't heard of any other boards... so unless they release a list or you have the p4c800-e, then i'd just go for the northwood 2.8

rumor has it that these new prescotts are decent but not as great as expected...

i hear intel will market the p4EE as their topline chip still even after prescott is released....

take what i say with a grain of salt... :) (don't ask me to quote where i heard this from in other words!!!)

I think I'm finally done upgrading (oh that's a good one!) for a while. I'm finally settled in with a system that will last me at least another year or so. The only thing that could pull my chain is another overclocking fest like the 1700+ and then 2.4-2.6Cs. ;)

According to Abit, their IC7 will support it also.

From the abit website, their IC7 supports the following processors:

Supports Intel Pentium 4 Socket 478 processors with 800/533/400 MHz FSB
Supports Intel Hyper-Threading Technology

The prescott is both an 800 or 533 mhz p4 processor and is hyper threaded (except 533 models), so according to their criteria, it will be supported.

Prescott Upgrading with Current Motherboards

it seems Asus, MSI, Abit and Gigabyte at the very list will support prescott with all their 865/875 chipset boards as specified on page 2 of the article.

I hope hardocp is right!!! That would be good news since I like to keep mobos for every 2 cpus....

That is quite a bit assuming there....That has read that for quite a while now long before prescott specs were finalized....Unless it says prescott take that as meaning only northwoods....

lol, I know, but from what it says, it should support it. Actually, I read a link on hardforum and abit said their IC7 and IS7 series will support prescott. :)

I'm not worried. Wish I knew of a good site with prescott benchmarks..
