The site probably got hammered to hell as soon as the article was posted.
I keep getting page not found.

Those of you who have read it. please let the rest of us latecomers know how it did.

Thanks,
Keys

For me it looks like the whole AT site is down except for the subscriber server.

Anyone here posting from the non-subscriber server?

Short version:

NV35 kicks butt except for blurry video output, ATI 3.4 Cats have issues. Nice job Nvidia!

Also, ATI's 256 MB 9800 pro uses DDR2...no faster than 128MB DDR1 9800 pro.

$500 for the 256MB NV35 and the R9800Pro 256MB

Anisotropic filtering is "fixed"(for all NV3X boards, although only optimal angles were tested which impacts certain boards heavily) in terms of IQ and performance.

Quake3 the NV35 was CPU limited running 1600x1200x32x4x8(not a single FPS drop ....!). Most benches the NV35 edged out the R9800Pro, some it dominated(Quake3), some it was edged out. Appears to be some bugs in the Cat 3.4s with SplinterCell and DooM3, 5800Ultra was the fastest at SplinterCell(shouldn't be surprising actually, although I imagine it will be to some people).

DooM3 performance, the nV boards dominated. They ran benches with the Cat 3.2s as there are massive performance issues with the Cat 3.4s but the 5800 and 5900 still were significantly faster.

New revision of the 5600Ultra coming, looks to be quite comparable to the R9600Pro besting it in a decent amount of tests although not across the board by any means(competitive at least).

I think I will be shopping/saving for a mid/low-end NV35 card this summer. This is the new GPU I have been waiting for I believe.

Looks very good. MUCH better than the nV30. Finally good AF performance and quality, no ridiculous dustbuster cooling requirement.

I really like the idea of variable freq core and variable speed GPU fans. This will keep the noise/heat to a minimum in 2D desktop mode. This was also a feature of the 5800U, but not done as well with the still very high 3D noise/heat levels.

As long as the shipping cards don't have the 2D IQ problem mentioned, it should be a great card. This is a concern since nV has had a record of 2D quality issues. $500 for it (or the 9800 256) is a bit steep for me though. I set my limit @ the low $300's and even that is more than I want to spend these days.

I just finished reading the Toms Hardware review. The NV35 is much much better than the NV30 and for "most relavent benches" is the leader. There are some speed problems with splinter cell and it seems NV35 is still using PS1.1 instead of 1.4. For the AS and AA tests the NV35 rocks. The 9800 pro however is not totally washed and still does farely well. In my eyes, it all comes down to a matter of personal preferance now. I personally cn't wait to get this thing. I already have set aside the 500 needed and will be in full AA+AS heaven hopefully soon.

PS:
IMO, I think the 5900 will be slightly more future proof than the 9800 pro. The ultra high performance settings were absolutely stellar.

i can't get though to anything but hardocp, did they run splinter cell in useing the special nvidia path for the geforce cards? if so they obviously will win those benchmarks. regardles, it is cool to see some impressive stuff from nvidia again.

500 dollars for a card that is in the range of a 9800pro at maximum settings?

if the card drops to 9800pro cost, then I'll praise Nvidia.

500 for the 256mb version which is the "ultra" 9800 pro with 256mb will be around the same price.

you know, for the massive cluster of servers Anand and the {s}oft are running, you'd think they'd be holding up a tad better than this...

from the extreme tech one seems the cards are pretty even, no clear performance king really... bodes well for future competition, and ATI had better fix the damn 3.4's im not going to want to wait for the 3.5's like i have been watiing since the 3.1's

yea, I missed that wurrmm. Sucks for ATI since the 256mb and 128mb versions performed similarly. 500 dollars is way too much for both cards.

what I think is WEIRD is how Id let the Doom3 benchmark out just for Nvidia. Is it payback for the ATI Doom3 leak and has Nvidia had more time with the final D3 build to tweak drivers? Makes me wonder...

The 9800Pro won the Splinter Cell benchies, all it said was they ran version 1.2, nothing else I don't think.

The mid-line nv35 cards look interesting. I'm wondering where this leaves the 5600? Is nVidia phasing them out already or are there going to be serious price cuts?

The model lines from both nVidia and ATI are starting to become redundant.

Ummm, no. Even the 5600 Ultra beats out the 9800 pro in splinter cell in higher resolutions.
