anyone get half-life 2 5.1 audio to work on nforce2 board?

I have a gigabyte 7n400 pro motherboard. the 5.1 works in doom and every other game BUT valve games like CS and Half Life 2 (Noooooo). Anyone know what the problem might be? I've already setup the nvmixer and the speakers (z640) are working they way they're supposed to.
 
If you use the newest drivers on nVidia's site (the separate audio driver download, not the latest nForce unified drivers) that does fix the problem.
