Anyone get FFXI yet?

I don't have but I'll probably get it in a while. I usually go there to read what people have to say. But beware, some of the people who post there are REALLY REALLY REALLY retarded.

anyone know anything about the video card issues with this game? I've been hearing that this game doesn't work well with the 9700series and fx cards. Most people seem to be getting crashes with FX or G4 TI cards... any input would be appreciated. TIA
yea my roomate insteaded it yesterday and it took like 3 hrs to install!!! Whats with all those updates??? :Q
I have it. I have a 1800+ Athlon @ 1800Mhz with a Radeon 9000 Pro running 3.7 Cats.
It runs at 1024x768 every setting maxed, its very smooth. It took just under 4 hours for me to install, patch and register.
The graphics are nice for a MMORPG, the keyboard game play is a little weird, but ok once you get used to it. The quest system in game looks good.
I've probably only played 8 hours and I can tell you black mages are very weak in the early game. Monks & Warriors are easy to start out with.
The servers so far have been excellent compared to those in other MMORPGs at launch (guess they get all the bugs ironed out since this game has been in Japan for over a year).

DAoC (Good servers at launch)
Shadowbane (Worst ever servers at launch)
Anyways if you like online games or are a FF fan its worth trying out.

it's awesome. did take some time to download the massive patch. the thing must have been like 700mb or something cuz 3hrs on cable is forever. haven't messed with the settings yet. maybe i should as JavaMomma seems to be running it at max. i run it on my laptop with a 1.3 P-M and ATI mobility 9000, 32mb. just fine. i might mess with settings today then. maybe. but it's awesome.

it requires a monthly fee correct? cause if so it might be worth it, so far Star Wars Galaxies was dissapointing and Planetside is too lame to be any fun, everytrhing looks the same in Planetside
Ya those patches must be the ones that have racked up over the year in Japan. It is a really fun game so far, I'm playing a monk, seems to be a good choice. As javamomma said, the servers are excellent, havent even had a hiccup yet and have played probably 20 hours (ouch). Especially since I heard rumour that the servers are actually in Japan. My only complaint about the game, is not actually due to a flaw in the software...it relates to me not knowing any asian languages, I've tried to ask for help from a few players and got response in a bunch of japanese or corean characters. While I can't understand the response, it is cool that there are people from Japan and Corea playing on the same server as me.
Ya it is worth it, as long as you play the game, I have friends who played other MMORPGS for like 2 hours a month, that is a waste.
I do not really like the extra $1 / character though, it will just make me play less characters.
Also not playing a game that is out now just because a (hopefully) better game is coming out next year, seems kind of silly to me.

Yup I have it. Fun game! The controls are a bit tough for me to get used to coming from EQ and DAoC. Its actually easier to play it without a mouse. Some people swear by a gamepad as this is a console port.
Anyway, graphics are very good. Job system is interesting too. I'll be playing it a bit more to see how it goes, but this should hold me over until WoW.
