i just bought the Acer AL2032WA 20" wide screen LCD.
http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=239038
The screen seems huge compared to my old 19" Samsung Syncmaster 955 DF CRT.
The colors on the lcd seem vibrant and clear and my eyes no longer hurt like they did with the crt.
At zip zoom fly, it's $481 shipped, i paid extra for 2 day shipping.

Just curious if people that have gone widescreen...for gaming....are happy with the decision. Or is it more of a PITA than it's worth.
I'm thinkging of upgrading to an LCD and I'm seriously considering widescreen. This is mainly a gaming PC so another big concern is the native resolution.
A 19" will let me play at 1280x1024, but a 20.1" widescreen (I belive this is the smallest widescreen) want 1600x1050. I think my 6800 GT will have truouble playing some of the newest games at this resolution.
Thoughts?
you can run the game at 1280x1024 on the 2005. i do it all the time because a lot of games have really crappy widescreen support, or i feel like i've got knight's helmet vision (looking out through a horizontal slot)
When you play at 5:4, does it stretch the screen, or put black bars on the sides?

No regrets here. If I was to do it all over again, I would - only bigger.

Why didn't you get the Dell 2005FPW for $360? You paid $120 more for an Acer...

There is no doubt.
LCDs are superior to CRTs.

I've heard way too many people complain about the severe backlight bleeding with the Dells.

So are you guys that are having to play at a lower resolution due to VC limitations, ok with that?
I realize LCD resolution scaling has improved, but there still is a significant decrease in quality, correct?

I personally couldn't handle the scaling on my 2005FPW and upgraded vid cards to play at native res. There are only two resolutions other than native that provide acceptable IQ, and neither work in all situations, I find myself either changing res all the time or scooting my monitor back and forth on my desk to avoid squinting.
Overall I'm happy with the widescreen, but it did take some getting used to.

I ordered a NEC 20WMGX2, and...
IT'S NOT IN STOCK YET!!!!! DAMMIT I WANT MY MONITOR!!!
EDIT: I did see two 20" widescreens at CC the other day. Playing some WMV HD the only word to describe it was breathtaking. And theese monitors weren't even half of the 20WMGX2. I hope it comes soon.
