Anyone get a CT Scan before?

Getting a CT Scan of my head in a couple of hours. Should take about 20 minutes.

Anyone have one before? Thoughts? I've read about those full body scans, where they can 3D map your body - I'd like to get that done. Just 'cuz.

I had a CT scan when I had viral meningitis in 8th grade. I threw up in the machine, it wasn't pleasant, especially since I was strapped down and to weak to get the Velcro off and turn my head sideways. Although I doubt that will end up happening to you, I was insanely nauseous from the virus. Just lay still and it will be over before you know it.

Yuck.

I should say that it's just a head scan, not the full body scan....

$20 copay!

What?? That's usually a copay for a doctor's visit. Doesn't this type of stuff fall in to "lab work" or whatever and go towards your deductible at like a 50/50 or 80/20 rate? (obviously I know it depends on the insurance).

That's what I thought too - I read that those tests can be high, in the 800-1000 range. I checked with my insurance and the radiologist, they both confirmed it would only be $20! Currently with Aetna, btw...

That's sweet. Hopefully my new insurance will be like that when it kicks in on the 15th.

CT scans are easy, at least they're non-invasive tests. I've had lots of them done over the years and it's no big deal.

I'm just nervous. I usually get nervous before I go the doc, for some reason...

QFT!. I'd rather have a CT scan than a MRI. They usually are much faster, (20 min/45 minutes) and much quieter. The only possible issue is if they want a contrasted CT scan, which required dye to be injected...not sure if they'd do that for a head scan however...

the injected ones suck.

well they all suck. i hate trying to be steal for 20 minutes. i can't do it.

it cost me $20 also for CT scans, MRi' ets also woot!

I had to drink this orange liquid when they did, it tasted nasty. What the hell was it I wonder.

$20 copay isn't to bad, but mines was FREE.

Had a CT scan of my neck done a few months ago. Took all of 10 minutes, including lying down, them prepping the machine, giving me the IV, and taking the image. The actually imaging test took about 30 seconds.

I had one in 2005 and had the putrid drink and the injection of what feels like hot fluid.

It was OK. The worst part was the Drink. Lemon flavour my arse.

Was yours an abdonomal scan too?

I had a nasty drink too.

I think I had one when I had appendicitis a month ago. It wasn't a big deal especially since I just got a shot a morphine.

Good thing I didnt have an IV, but mines was an abdominal CT scan though.
I had the abdominal scan too a couple months ago. I went to the emergency room for kidney stones one night. I was pretty juiced up on something like morphine by that point, but I don't think it took but 5-6 minutes for the whole thing. Just lay on the cold table, don't move, and it's all over pretty quickly.

I have had to drink the "stuff" before to have a head CT scan. I ended up covered in hives an hour later. I am allergic to high doses of iodine apparently 🙂

understandable as generally doctors do 1 of 2 options.
1)Give you a pill that makes you grow 3 heads.
2) or cut something out of you.
