Anyone game with the Logitech 5000 Desktop

The mouse that came with my MX 3100 desktop bit the bullet, so Logitech is sending me an MX 5000 desktop to replace it. I'm curious if anyone has it, and if there's any lag associated with the bluetooth technology.

Once upon a time, I paid $160 for the Logitech MX for Bluetooth. It was a great desktop set, no lag, no problems, great volume control, great bluetooth support and connectivity, truly the desktop of the gods.

3 years later, the keyboard stopped working. Dead. :(

I called Logitech, and they said they didn't make it anymore, but they'd send me a newer, nicer version of the same thing. How could I go wrong I thought!

What they sent me was, without a doubt, the worst piece of consumer electronics I've ever seen in my life. The bluetooth connection drops frequently for the mouse and keyboard. The mouse will lag between 1 and 3 seconds behind your actual movements for minutes at a time. The keyboard will say, "The letter 'd' eh? Have 300 of them!" And type them all out. Or, if you were pressing backspace at the time your keyboard skitzed out, you get to lose everything you were typing!

Well this is no good, said I. I call Logitech and explain the problem to them. They quickly decide to send me a whole new set! Unfortunately, it had the exact same problems! The problems are at their absolute worst when Logitech's Setpoint is installed. I went to the Logitech forums to see if there was a solution. All I found were thousands of angry users.

So I have the following suggestions for you:
1) Google "MX5000 sucks." There are hundreds of reviews, web pages, and message board posts to be found.
2) Check out the Microsoft Entertainment Desktop 8000. It's better in every single way. I'll never buy another Logitech product again.

I just checked the NewEgg ratings. This thing looks like it's the lowest rated Logitech keyboard on all of NewEgg .

You get far more hits by trying "MX 5000 horrible" :D.

I've had an MX 5000 for few months now. Got it from a philantrophistic(?) friend who said he didn't need it anymore :p

And, it really can suck. I remember multiple times playing Half-Life 2 or Dungeon Siege 2 and suddenly Gordon keeps on running forward and I can only hope I can steer myself into a corner or that the view keeps on rotating in DS and I try to hit the pause button. And what Nebor said about stuck keys... :(

It depends, some days might be absolutely fine, no errors anything. Then one day that I spend hitting the reconnect buttons and hoping that it connects for the nth time finally.

One really nice point I have is that my cell can easily connect using the BT minihub.... and that's maybe the only nice point.

It was the Setpoint 3 software that had most errors, here is to hoping that Setpoint 4 can redeem itself.

No, whatever you do, don't buy an MX5000. It's crap. And setpoint is even worse.

I'm not buying it, it's being sent to me as a replacement. If it sucks ten kinds of ass, I'll see if I can just get a gaming mouse out of them, and use a mediocre keyboard.

Update: So far, it's working ok...although, the whole combo disconnected randomly during a TF2 match. The keyboard will go into power saving mode if I'm camping as an engy, but it's really fast to wake up.

All in all, I miss my old combo, lol.

I got the second version of the mouse and keyboard Nebor speaks of. http://www.logitech.com/index....s/devices/162&cl=us,en

Totally random and weird problems ensued. Connection would drop randomly, unexplained lag that would come and go at random, sometimes the mouse would stop working when suddenly the cursor would go nuts following the previous movements of the mouse but in a 2 second time span.

I have abandoned the keyboard in favor of a Saitek keyboard ( http://www.saitek.com/uk/prod/eclipse.htm ), crisp keys, very nice adjustable wrist pad thingey, volume control, keylights for the dark (just make sure it's not the one with only a back light "around" the keys), and very easy to clean if you spill liquids into it (3 sheets of plastic, just rinse it off and let dry fully).

The mouse on the other hand... well one day it suddenly started working properly and i still don't know why. Every 2nd format (i format my computer 2 or 3 times a year) it works Perfectly, the rest of the time i have to unplug and plug back in the BlueTooth USB receiver for the mouse to work, pressing the connect buttons does nothing. It has good batty life (recharge docking station) and is THE most comfortable mouse i have ever used, along with no lag, i also prefer it for FPS games then my Logitech G5.
But the new Natural 6000 mouse even more ergonomic, http://www.microsoft.com/hardw...ctDetails.aspx?pid=086

In the end, try and avoid thee MX 5000 series mouse and keyboard like the plague. It's wonderful when it works, but it's up to a roll of the dice if your set will work.
