the water street brewery is good, so is rock bottom. You should look at going to the safehouse too, great food and an interesting entrance. the entrance is in a ally just across from the Pabst theater downtown. just walk down the ally a bit and you will find it.

And be prepared to do something embarrassing on camera for all inside the restaurant to see.

Also, are there any jazz clubs/bars around there?

There were some live music clubs/bars around on Brady St, in uptown. It's been so long though I can't remember any particular names...or if they're still there.

Coquette Cafe is my favorite restaurant in Wisconsin due to the quality + price considerations. If you want to get a big party there, though, you should definitely call now. And it's not walking distance, but it's a quick drive. Check out that crazy Asian statue store while you are down there.

And, if it's still there, enjoy watching the uber-hot dance instructor across the street giving lessons in front of their huge windows, while you eat....Holy God was she hawt.

Hmmm wife and I have a GC to Croquet... maybe we should use that soon 🙂

Honestly there aren't that many in MKE. There still is one on Brady IIRC

The place I'm thinking of in particular was just a typical "bar"...divey compared to some of the other area joints (like the Hi-Hat and The Velvet Room), but not a dive by any means. But the drinks were strong and the music was good. More bluesy than Jazz though.

Went many Xmases ago with my Dad and brother to watch a college buddy jam out. My Dad kept ordering my brother and me whiskey shots all night and got us piss drunk.

.....The Up and Under...I think that was it.

yeap still there on Brady. There's another Jazz/Blues joint there but I forget its name (and a pile of other restaurants and pubs) all up and down Brady. I don't frequent the East Side anymore, but have friends that live just a door or 2 off Brady.

BTW glad to see so many Milwaukeens on here 🙂

 Denver is great for me, but I do miss Milwaukee quite a bit. Now that my wife and I are both working steady jobs, it should be easier for us to afford the occasional trip over. Visit my folks, see old friends, check out some of the old haunts...*sigh* should be good times.

As long as you're not cheering for the Broncos or Rockies, you can come home anytime 🙂

Made Milwaukee famous!

Surprisingly, I have access to the best selection of beer I've ever seen and tasted in Denver. Better than Milwaukee ever was. It's blasphemy, I know...but it's true.

"made" as in past tense. No question MKE died as a brewer. We're struggling to keep Miller now. Go back 100 years though and it was the venter of the brewing universe.

To Brewtown's past.

IIRC, Miller is considering merging with Coors and possibly moving headquarters here. Oh, the irony. Maybe it's just my fate to follow the beer.

I thought they already merged? Wisconsin still has new glarus though. Spotted Cow.... Yummm

Did they already? Last article I read was in October. I think they have to wait for gov't approval. Spotted Cow is excellent.
