I leave for a business trip this weekend to Birmingham (though I fly into Huntsville). I'm there for at least a week, if not longer. If anyone wants to meet up or do dinner or something, let me know! Also, if anyone has any advice/things I should see, throw me some suggestions in the good ol' ATOT spirit.

Also, on a more serious note, I have part of this Saturday and Sunday free, so if anyone knows someone who needs some help from the recent Tornado disaster (clean up work, etc.) let me know and I'll come help.

Fuck, I'm going home from school in Tuscaloosa and I won't be up in Huntsville until the 16th. Else I'd drive over and have a beer or 12 with you.

As to the volunteering, just look in a newspaper or just ask around. There is a ton of shit to do.

I don't know much about B'ham, although my friend loves The J. Clyde.

Well, I live in Madison, and live about 3 miles from the airport. I'm just doing yard work this weekend, so if you're bored...

I'm not much on beer, so I don't know many good places around here. But if you want to get some BBQ and shoot the shit, I'm available.

Re: Volunteering, when you get down here call 211. They'll give you info on where/what you can do.

Not from Alabama, but I have worked / lived there in Huntsville in the past and have family there.

Before you drive to Birmingham, eat at Rosie's Mexican Cantina in Huntsville, order the supreme chicken nachos (or whatever they call their specialty nachos) and tres leches for dessert. Their tres-leches is the best damn Mexican dessert I have ever eaten and I have yet to find a better one.

During my summer internship at Redstone, I ate that for supper like twice a week.

Also, great of you to volunteer to help in the relief effort.

Meh, La Placita on Hughes Road in Madison > Rosie's. Hole in the wall Mexican place ftw!

If it tastes good, I do not care if it is authentic. I do not recall any outstanding soul food places in Huntsville, but then again, I did not look hard.

Why not go to Rosie's Mexican Cantina on University (US 72) rather than going all the way out to Memorial Parkway? Rosie's isn't too bad though, but I've heard people give more praise to Casa Blanca (Huntsville , Madison) as one of the better chain Mexican restaurants around here.

Have you been to the Space and Rocket Center before? It's right here in Huntsville and it might be interesting if you like space exploration. They have the model of the Saturn V rocket outside (it's impossible to miss) and a real one inside.

If you like alcohol, I've heard The Nook Tavern is interesting as it has I think over 200 (or was it 400?) different types of beer.

I've been dying to try out that BBQ place up on 72 in Madison across the street from the KFC. They place always has a car line out the ass at 5pm going through the drive through, sometimes about 20-30 cars long!

Never went to that location, was staying on Madison, should be the same and preferable if closer.

Sounds promising, report back after the evaluation, might have to add it to my list.

I suggest going there as well, enjoyed the visit as well as Missile Park (or Rocket Park?).

Birmingham's a pretty good town for BBQ.

Which BBQ place... Smokey's? I've had Smokey's before and it's good. I've heard a lot of good things about Lawler's (Jeff Rd).

I'm flying into Huntsville, then I was debating whether to head up to Nashville for the day (for good food and good music... I'm a country fan!) or just hang out in Huntsville and then head down to Birmingham.

Part of me wants to go to Nashville (I haven't been there in FOREVER and am a huge country fan) but the other half of me wants to just spend the time in Alabama :) I have until Sunday night to be in BHAM.

Whatever you do stay the hell away from Montgomery. There's nothing redeeming here even for just visiting.

Well, I think Montgomery might have the highest traffic problems/population ratio in U.S. Oh wait, that's not redeeming. Never mind.

Everything I know about Alabama I learned from Robot Chicken, and that is you only get an hour of jail time for touching a child!

No, Thomas Pit BBQ is the name. It's just a small crappy looking white block building on 72, but there's ALWAYS a car line like 20 cars deep there.

So does anyone want to do lunch tomorrow (Saturday)?

As I said, I'm game, though it might be with my wife and a couple kids as we're going to go to Home Despot to get some yard stuff today too.
