should put up a poll but the consensus seems to be NO. tiny profit margin, super long hours, and high turnover rate. this doesn't include all the advertising you have to do, fliers/pennysavers/church ads/local radio, losses from coupons. often times you need to donate/sponsor to your local community (little league, schools).

big thing though, you have to run this place like a business, fuck loving it. you'll end up giving away half your inventory if you go into this business cause you love ice cream.

The number of details that impact ROI in food service are legion but, two of the biggies are the high cost of product in relation to selling price and the razor thin edge that you have to walk in regards to labor cost. Seriously, this is a much too complex a proposition to even begin to address in these forums. If you have no experience in the field, run away now. I have seen food service operations both franchise and self operated take people's life savings, home and, ruin marriages.

Hi Magnus,

I am in the process of building an independent (non-franchised) water ice business out of a truck. I would like to know more about your vision and thoughts of franchising. I found your post particularly interesting, so I hope to hear from you soon. Thanks
