I see Tropical Storm Fay really becoming a big problem for more folks as it slowly moves over Florida a 4th time. Anyone have any water in their home? Heard a few areas that did. Some getting very close.

Yes, we are nearly up to our knees in murky water. We put sandbags down but they only slowed down the water. My windows are literally shaking in their mounts, I feel like they are going to shatter any time now. You may be wondering why I am online and posting on a message board during this storm. It sounds like the dumbest idea ever, until you consider someone posting to ask people if their houses are flooded during a storm.

You do realize thousands of people are actually doing that right now. Some live for it when it happens.

Nah, it's been raining all day here (Gainesville), but it's not a very heavy rain. The wind is picking up though, and with all the trees here it makes quite a mess with leaves, moss, and twigs everywhere.

Thanks looks like a lot of folks in Jacksonville, FL are or will be having major flooding problems today.

That one heavy rain line has been over them for at least 6 hours + and counting. It is not going to pretty once day break in some of those areas. Fay is still moving so slowly at only 5 mph. It could last for a while longer. I wouldn't be surprised to see rain fall totals around there in the 20 to 30 + inch rain in certain areas.

I'm worried, I live at the lowest point of my street, with rather small lake across the street. Should expect some of the first serious bands to move in this afternoon, but I cannot take the kind of rainfall amounts the other areas of the state are getting. My street floods under mild thunderstorms, I'm going to hate to see it in this situation.

Yay for insurance? I'm tired of this state :p

Apparently Melbourne got over TWO FEET of rain.

My family in Central Florida seem to be doing alright.

For the most part, things are back to normal in Melbourne though schools are still closed today. The storm did not have much in the way of a lasting impact. The winds were not very strong. It was only the secondary tornadoes and the large quantity of rain that affected the area. Some homes flooded but there was not much structural damage.

One of my friends lost power during the storm for a little while. Some of my friends had some water flood into their home. Everyone got trapped in their house for a couple days. It was just a really shitty weekend in the middle of the week.

How many homes flooded with your best guess?

My gf flew to Jacksonville last night. Airtran was the only airline brave enough to go through the storm. The results included a cabin full of vomit and a bunch of wet seats seats. That one plane will never be the same.

Hope you meant "Flood Insurance", because most if not all regular home insurance does not cover flooding :(

Really, the only big danger Gainesville faces from hurricanes comes from all the oak trees we have. They have wide, shallow root systems that are susceptible to erosion. Too much rain and they'll fall over onto a house, or snap electrical lines.

We haven't got nearly enough rain or wind for this to happen. I'm chilling in our sun porch with the windows open, enjoying the temperature drop.

Looks like the Halliburton Hurricane Machine is mis-calibrated. They need to get that fixed.
