Same can be said of PCs. Difference is they're upgradeable; they won't hold game quality in check for five years.
It's not a PC vs console issue. Some ppl like one, some ppl like the other. I was a PC gamer for a long time but rather than drop $300 on a videcard alone, I'd rather get a new console and not have to worry about upgrading it for 5 years.
I've never spent $300 on a video card.

I can see Joe Schmoe getting excited about it. For someone who thinks Alienware, with their $3k+ systems, are the only way to play PC games, doesn't know a thing about PC maintenance and thinks of AOL as high-tech & hard to use, it makes perfect sense. What I don't understand is people on a tech board getting wet panties over it.

What I dont understand is where do you guys get your pricing information when Microsoft refused to announce it AFAIK. For all we know, this thing could be $500, $800, $10E6

in any case, im pretty impressed with xbox as a XboxMediaCenter platform -- it already supports HDTV resolutions(it currently drives my projector with 720P signal). But i paid $150 for it, I aint paying $500+ for it which it sounds it will cost due to multiple CPUs and a higher end videocard. Im sure MS will subsidize it in order to make $$ on game royalties, but by how much?

Don't forget who essentially owns PC gaming, Microsoft. Remember that without that OS running underneath it all, PC gaming would pretty much suck. Anyone here game 100% on Linux or Apple? I think not. Microsoft will become powerful enough in the gaming market to realize that software profit (the business they're REALLY in) is better on a console than on a PC. Look for diminished returns in PC gaming development on behalf of Microsoft if they overtake Sony in the market and gain a massive market share from the Xbox 360. Death of PC gaming? Nah. Chokehold at the hands of Microsoft, could be....

Meh, Xbox 360 will be better than 99% of PCs when it debuts, and 99% of new PCs will be better than Xbox 360 four years later.
