Anyone familiar with Winona, MN?

Just curious as to what to expect. I am traveling that way in the morning for business and will be there for a week. Anything to see, decent places to eat, etc?

I've been through it but I'm not familiar with it.
Sorry.

I spent most of my time in Minneapolis and went up to Fergus Falls to see family.
Spent a little bit of time on the farm in Wendell.

Spent last week in Fergus Falls. Didn't get a picture by the otter, though. 🙂

I'd also like to tour the Kirkbride Hospital, ever been there?

Sorry for the hijack, OP.

SHENS!

Never been to that hospital. Spent plenty of time at Pioneer Rest Home with various relatives.

I live about and hour away, spent a few nights there. Being on the Mississippi River it's quite an interesting town in layout and activity. As for specific things, there isn't a whole lot that stands out to me off the top of my head. There's plenty of places to eat, don't worry about that, you'll get your fixin of food🙂

Which hotel you staying at? I've been to several of them there? Also, where are you coming form and what business you got there?

If you are interested in electronics, maybe stop by the ColorWare factory, would be interesting to see! If you want more info on colorware send me a PM🙂

Southern MN sucks... though the SE corner isn't horrible. The bigger river cities like Red Wing and La Crosse (WI) are somewhat interesting.

Not really sure what hotel I am at, but I think it is the Holiday Inn. I am going to visit Bay State Milling as I am working for a project of theirs.

From a tourist point of view you got a point, awesome place to live though really🙂 I'm about 45 minutes straight west of Red Wing. Right between rochester and the cities, perfect location, especially with gas prices, never have to go too far to get stuff, but away from the cities' headaches.

However, gonna be going to the UofM next year and can't wait!

Being a Big Ten guy, UofM refers to University of Michigan. As a disclaimer I did not attend Michigan or Minnesota.

I lived near Mankato for 18 years of my life. I thought it was the greatest place ever until I moved. Living in the pacific northwest surrounded by mountains and water makes me never want to go back there.

However, I absolutely love visiting my parents' wooded farm way up by Grand Rapids. The northern part of the state is a completely different place though. I think the boundary waters rival any other place in the 48 states.

The southern part of the state though... I've had enough of corn and soybean fields for the rest of my life.

Anyway, Winona is a pretty small town - the twin cities are a couple hours away if you have time to burn.

I live between Mankato, MN and Sioux Falls, SD. Not a lot out here other than Ethanol plants and corn/soybean fields. Nice, safe place to raise a family but not a whole lot to do for 20-somethings like myself.

ive been a bunch of times, one of my ex's went there. campus and town are nice. drive up hwy 61/14 along the mississippi is fantastically beautiful

:music:Wynona loved her big brown beaver
And she stroked him all the time.
She pricked her finger one day and it
Occurred to her she might have a porcupine.

Damn you Minnesotans and your trees...

<----Grew up in the Dakotas 😀

Haha, can't say I missed your barrenness in driving through🙂

Probably too late, you may already be there.

I went to Winona State for a year and a half. Dropped out mid school year and moved back to the Twin Cities because I couldn't stand it any longer in that boring town.

You can drive around the bluffs and check out the views for about a half a day. Hang with the college crowd at the bars. That is about it.

My dad grew up in the Fergus area. We used to go deer hunting up there, stayed in the Holiday Inn right off of the Freeway. Good memories.

I grew up in North Dakota - lived in Minneapolis (Uptown, Lake Calhoun) for approx 1 year and now back in Fargo.
