Anyone familiar with the IBM Click of death? (75gxp)

Well, I noticed this morning when I woke up, my comp had crashed. So I think "whatever, just get it later" So i come home from school and fire it up and now it seems to click noticeably louder than before. I dunno if Im just paranoid, but this sucks. I know almost all 75gxp's are destined to die an early death, and I dont have the funds right this moment to buy a new HD 🙁 This sucks.

Anyone else had probs with 75gxps?

Yup. You are the only one in the world with a bad IBM drive. Must be karma.
 
Do yourself a favor and transfer all your important files to another drive. My 75GXP was dying so bad that it took 1 hour to transfer 1GB of data to the second HDD I had in my PC.

In the end though, it all worked out because I RMAed the drive to IBM and got a new even bigger 60GXP back from them.

Around two years ago or so that statement wasn't far from the truth. Guess it was a bad idea to cut quality control from the budget.
 
I just received my replacement 75GXP in the mail today after my first one died (I had a 60gb and IBM sent me a 75GB replacement - nice). However, what should I do with it? Do you guys actually use the replacement drives or try and sell them?
 
I had two in RAID 0. I had to RMA one but they didn't have any in stock so they refunded my money. I sold the other because I didn't want to take a chance.

Same situation here...I put it in and used it with some non important stuff. Within a day, it did the click of death thing again. Its currently sitting on my dresser...while my 100GB Western Digital is my primary hard drive.

I had the WD overnighted to me right after my first 75GXP died 🙂

I keep windows 98 on my 75gxp. If it crashes I figure it's no great loss.
I hope they didn't pull this sh!t in the travelstar drives though. The Hitatchi drives are famous for the same problem as the 75gxp's. My travelstar has been great so far though *knock on wood*

lol, you miserable creature, I replaced my drives, those 60GXP's are backup storage for non-esstential data at this point 🙂
