the freemasons were a society of people in england who didn't have to pay for internal passports (hence free to travel) because their work (masonry) was so necessary and valuable. alternative to religion my ass.

the whig party that existed early in this country's history was set up to oppose the masons.

Freemasonry is not a substitute for religion. It is a fraternal organization, meaning that once you are a Freemason you are such for life and welcome at any of the lodges. Dezign, I know a lot about the Freemasons (about as much as one is allowed to know without being actually IN their leagues) so PM me if you have any particular questions!

They are the current day incarnation of the Knights Templar supposedly. Their history goes back way before the Klan so I don't know how you could think they have anything to do with it. I think my uncle was a member, but I didn't really know him.

Maybe I didn't explain very well. I didn't mean it that way, but the lessons they use are set up in such a way that you religion is irrelevant. What is important is that you can't be a member unless you accept their moral outlook on life. If you don't, then oh well go start your own club. Their lessons are set up in such a way so that they aren't overly religious, but they needed a theme to use, hence freemasonry.

Also the thing with the Whig party: Once upon a time the Masons were getting overly political in the US. The Whigs (actually it may have been a different party, I don't know) were running candidates against them so they started a smear campaign casting the Masons as controlling the government through their secretive ways. (this is where most of those Illuminati-esk stories come from) This of course scared the crap out of the general population (whether it was true or not) and all of a sudden it was a very bad thing to be a Mason. The masons then decided that it sucked to be labeled the "evil society" and that's when they started the whole shriners children hospital and other such programs that they are now known for. It's kinda hard to hate a secret society when they give medical care to children and do all that stuff for the community...

skulls are a subset of the freemasons, so i would guess the rest of them, though the skulls probably run the joint.

Nope. The Shriners and Oddfellows are subsets. The Skills are a society of Yale rich kids.

For all I know....

Actually all that stuff I said I heard from my uncle who is very active in the Masons in South Dakota. But then again he told that to me years ago and my memory isn't all that great so some of it may be complete BS.

Heheh...when I was going through college one of my teachers took our class to one of the local temples for design and architecture. My brother and I went in razzed the host for most of the trip.

Some of the questions we asked:

Where did you guys finally decide on burying the body of Christ anyway?

How many animals have been sacrificed here in the last year?

Is it true you walk around in robes and chant like monks on the solstice?

Were you born that way or did you eat yourself that fat?

Obviously from the questions, we knew our host personally. So knowing him, my brother and I could get away with a little more than the average visitor. We ended up buying him a beer a few nights later after he had cooled down. But as many before have stated, the freemasons dont speak a lick publicly about anything that goes on inside. I asked him once about the organization and was given a video tape about them in general. But it never explained so much as a peep about what they are and what they believe. If you look them up online theres a wealth of information(or misinformation depending on who you talk to) They do date back hundreds of years. My grandfather was one, and it got him employment after WW2 was over.

Nowadays you have to wonder what exactly theyre good for.

The Freemasons is a secret society which historically have consisted of the world's greatest leaders and thinkers. A literal "Who's Who" have belonged to them over history--Kings, Presidents, scientists, Generals, billionaires, nobilty, etc, etc.

The do indeed do good deeds to further peace and progress.

They are secret (they have a secret handshake) b/c in the old days, the Catholic Church persecuted anyone who didn't fall in line with their antiquated agenda and ignorant belief system. The secrat handshake was a way to recognize each other without giving away anything.

To this day, the Church denounces them as evil. No surprise, from an institution that doesn't recognize their current sins (child abuse) and old sins (wars, Inquisition), etc, etc, etc, etc.

In today's society of the more educated and enlightened, the Church's hegemonical governance is realtively obscure--much to their dismay. Yet, the Freemasons do exist, anybody can join after a trial period, and they continue with their secret symbolic rituals which teach th ideals of what they are all about.
