Anyone familiar with rabbit semiconductor core modules?

specifially the 3400. The reason is I am currently working on a project where the rabbit core (3400) will have to communicate with a fuel gauge. this fuel gauge uses a one pin bi-directional protocol called dq. is there a way to write and read from just one port? i know how to define either or, but not familiar with defining both at the same time...
