I heard about this peerflix service (www.peerflix.com) and it sounded interesting...basically, its a trading network for DVDs, you list what you have, and what you're looking for, etc. Anyway, the idea sounded neat, so I signed up for the free trial. They said they'd send "mailers" for the movies, and then you just send your stuff to whomever they matched the movie up to. Well, the mailers are just envelopes with basically a disc sleeve in it. The entire DVD case won't fit. What I'm wondering is if anyone has used this before, and if its just expected that you're supposed to just send the disc or something?? I was looking to get rid of some duplicate movies that I have and ones I don't want anymore and to get ones that I am looking for. But it doesn't do me any good if all I have is the DVD disc. Anyone?

so it is just like netflix, but they don't provide the DVD's, the members do

what happens when a disc gets lost in the mail? what happens when somebody says a disc got lost in the mail, but it really didn't?
what happens if you get a disc that is scratched/broken? what happens if your dog bites a disc you have?

interesting

how much $ per month ?

99 cents per trade, and you have to send your own out to earn credits, you can't just receive, you are forced to send your own out also.

Which sounds decent - I have movies I don't want, others have ones I do want, net cost is a buck plus a stamp. But I don't want just the movie disc, I want the whole thing.

Regarding the fist comment, I think they have something in place to refund if you get broken or unplayable discs, or they'll replace them or something. It all seems like a good deal, but I thought you'd get the whole DVD package, and their tech support won't return my emails.

No one has tried this yet?

I think you'd be better off w/ Netflix IMO :)

Netflix starts at $10/mo. There aren't ten movies I want to see a month. Ten per year maybe.

This sounds like a good idea, in theory.

Bah, I still haven't heard from their tech support. I give up....I think I will probably let this one pass, even though it sounds good. As for the Netflix alternative, I don't think I was planning on using it as that. I have some movies I don't want any more, and after moving in with my fiancee, we have some duplicate movies. I think it only costs a stamp to send out a movie, and a dollar to receive one. That sounds like a good deal if I could unload ones I don't want anymore and get a handful that I'm looking for. But the whole thing is useless if its just sending discs in sleeves back and forth - I want the whole thing!

And if they do, people won't get the credit toward getting a new one.

Is "getting lost in the mail" a big problem for Netflix?
