i'm looking at this cable.
anyone know where i can find this B&M to try it out first?

also, is there any advantage of this?

dear god they want that much money. I've seen those for sale at computer shows for under $12.

do you have a wholesale electronics supply place in your area? check the yellow pages..I there are only a couple where i live, and they charge an arm and leg, but when you need something quickly, they have it

Are you certain that those products work both ways? They seem to be intended for splitting a VGA signal into component outputs. I'm not sure if they will combine a component input into a VGA output. You might want to verify that before you purchase.

Look at the connector on your projector, $1 says you have an identical connector to the one in the picture. You'll need an adapter or a cable with a male D-Sub connector.

You would need an HD cable box with VGA output, or a component to vga converter, and not the other way around since your projector takes VGA input. I'm not sure if those cables and the converter can work backwards, because VGA input requires H/V sync signals that component outputs don't provide. BNC inputs usually have the H/V sync signals, which is why bnc to vga and vga to bnc are common.

Good point, didn't think of that.

He will need something like this:

There are tons of these out there, but they're all designed to turn a regular PC monitor into a TV. They should work fine for use with a projector.

The difficult part will be finding one that will do HDTV resolutions, with most of them you'll be passing nothing but 480i.

There are lots of devices to go from YPbPr to VGA. Just make sure you get one that's progressive-scan compatible.

yeah, i'm trying to get an adaptor somewhere locally so i can at least try it and maybe return it. i dont even know if its worth watching hi-def programming on the projector.

for now, the tv is looking great.

viper, what do i need the adaptor for? the projector already has 2 vga inputs on it.

anyone have an experience with hi def tv on a projector by the way? thx for the replies.

Your projector almost certainly has a FEMALE D-Sub connector, you will need a male connector to hook to it. The one in your picture is female.

This is what I'm using for an Infocus X1.

Will I be able to use the VGA to component adapter to watch DVD's from my DVD player on my computer monitor?

Probably not, the adapter just "adapts" it doesn't convert. Nearly all computer monitors need an RGB signal, as compared to the component (Y, Pr, Pb) signal that a DVD player outputs. To view a component signal on an RGB monitor requires a transcoder, which converts the component to an RGB signal. Many projectors and some rare monitors will accept a compent signal via their HD-15 (VGA or RGB) port. This is the intended use for this adapter. Bottom line: For the adapter to work your display device must accept component inputs.
