Anyone familiar with DUI's?

Well my g/f younger brother was already on probation for a Minor In Possesion. Last night he had been drinking and got into a wreck with another car (headon) it was his fault. He broke his leg and wrist, and sent one of the other guys in the other car to the hospital. Well my g/f and I saw his destructive behavior months ago and tried out best to talk some sense into him, it didnt work. He is 19yrs old and still has the mentality that he is industructible (like many many teens). I told her last week that he was headed down the wrong path, and that eventually his behavior was going to catch up with him. Well it did and in a bad way. I have read some stuff about DUI laws in Georgia, but I am wondering what is going to happen to his and his parents. I am guessing the guys in the other car are going to sue. GA law says that if under 21 he will get min of 40 hours community service, attend DUI school, loose his liscense for at least 6 months and spend at least 24 hours in jail. Anyone ever had or known someone with a similar experience?

EDIT: Main question this happened Thur morning at 3am......he had blood work done at the hospital. My g/f said that she does not know if any charges have been brought against him.

MY QUESTION IS HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO GET CHARGES BROUGHT AGAINST YOU after the incident

That sounds like a handslap if he get a DUI. No offense but I would like to see him punished more to teach him a lesson. I would take away his drivers license until he was 21 for starters.

Word. like, double up all that then we're lookin at something. I mean Christ, a head on collison? Dude needs more then that little punishment. Hopefully the other guy will sue, win and the fam will have to declare bankruptcy thus not be able to afford to buy the young dumb son a car.

No offense taken, he said today......." I'm not going to jail"

I was so pissed even after all this the little chit thinks he is invincable.

I have no sympathy for him at all, and as much as I love my g/f I think he needs to get alot more what the law states.

Here's a thought - have his parents hire a fvcking lawyer. Regardless of charges he's going to need one, whether civil or criminal. (In his case both) And charges can be brought up as fast as the DA wants (for criminal, for civil it's as fast as the other person can hire a lawyer and file papers)

I dont know about GA but in WV under 21 DUI accident with injury he would land in jail for 6 months and lose his license until he was 21. The fines would be upwards of a couple grand.

He deserves what ever he gets. I'm sorry to say so do his parents, as they should have done something, especially if he was driving one of thier vehicles. They would have to know about his deteriorating behavior and lack of responsability.

I hope the other people are okay and his injuries heal.

No he is in the hospital and will be released tommorow........I mean like how soon will he have charges filed against him by the police.

That's g_y. Just getting caught with DUII deserves more than that. Causing an accident should under the influence should be deserving of 6months in jail, license suspended for five to ten years and an assault with a deadly weapon charge.

I answered your question already. Police decide to file charges, DA then begins process.
