I'm looking at an Athlon XP 1700 system....the price is very good, just don't want to buy from a company that has a bad rep!!!

ABS manufactures quality machines and offers good technical support. They even allow upgrading to a nice InWin tower. They consistenly win awards from Ziff Davis magazines (e.g., PC World, Computer Shopper) and web sites (e.g., ZDnet, C|NET).

OMG......I bought a new system from ABS computers in 1993. It was hot then, was a 486DX66.....I didn't know they were still around.

Knew a guy that bought one from them. Got it and was so disappointed he sent it back. Not too sure the details but I'll ask again.

Nothing special, just a white box pc with a brand name. They want to become another dell. They're very aggressive, you can see a lot of ads in computer magazine, they're often editor's choice or have top rating.

Exactly. The more ads you buy the better the ratings you receive. I don't know which are worst at this practice, car magazines or computer mags ...

A friend of mine got a ABS PC a few years ago, I think it was a p200. He was happy with it and never said there was a problem. However, what they put inside these newer PC's I don't know. Make sure to find out what their return policy is and if there is a re-stocking fee if you are not happy with the PC.

A friend of mine had a p3-450, was loaded at the time though, 256 megs of ram, 19" hitachi, etc, ran like a top for all that I ever heard of it.

I looked at ABS when shopping for a new computer, but I decided to order from NuTrend (www.nutrend.com) instead, because it was somewhat cheaper and also received good reviews from mags such as PCWorld. I don't know if nutrend is still cheaper, though, as both companies seem to have completely revamped their product lines since I ordered mine in September. I have been pretty happy with the system, there hasn't been any major problems. They're probably faster, now, too, since they offer a mobo with the KT266A chipset instead of the AMD760 that i bought. When I ordered at least, both companies offered almost identical components in their systems, it was strange. ABS looks like a good, reliable company, though, if you want to order from them.

Edit: Just looked and it seems that nutrend is still the cheaper choice.
