I am considering upgrading from the factory audio system in my '99 Mountaineer.

I was first considering keeping the factory system and adding a 10 or 12-disc CD changer. However, I am now considering replacing the factory unit with an Alpine CD/MP3 headunit.

The particular model I am looking at is the Alpine CDA9807 (~$270 at CircuitCity). The few reviews I have been able to read indicate the 2nd generation Alpine MP3 units are very good.

Anyone have this unit or a similar Alpine unit? Any advice or suggestions are welcome. :)

A friend of mine has that one. He's had no complaints. Various online places have it for 250 or a little less.

alpines are good. but are pricey. get a pioneer DEH7500. its a good bang for the buck and has a lot of little features that are cool. also looks a hella lot better than the apline u mentioned. also, dont get it from a retail store. search online....ive found a $410 for $270 (new) online somewhere

I had an alpine, similar to that one in my Z3. Had if for about 6 months and then it started to hiss while playing CD's. Thought I blew the speakers (again), but after lots of testing it turned out to be the Alpine Headunit. Since then I upgraded to the alpine Navigation system with the electronic LCd, like from fast and the furious. Works pretty well with subs and I haven't been lost since =)

Wow! Raves at the CC site. I like it. It looks easy to use. I don't even want to install my Blaupunkt in my new car because the display is ridiculously bright.

This Alpine looks very nice.

Crutchfield has if for the same price as CC (free shipping right now, since it's $200 or more), except that Crutchfield throws in a free wire harness and dashboard kit, which CC and other retailers gouge for.

You might be able to save a few bucks yet at a different online store, but not very much after shipping and necessary parts for installation.

Damn-it! There's yet one more thing that I'm going to eventually spend money on!

I got the 9807 at CC a couple of weeks ago... since I have an old Mercedes, I had them put it in, which they did in only a couple of hours... I was very happy with the service and the headunit has been PERFECT so far. Its definitly worth everydime. Feel free to ask any questions you have about it.

i have the 9813... and i like it ALOT. however, you can get it alot cheaper at ikesound.com

as far as warranty goes, ive never had a head unit break on me so thats that

I have an alpine mp3 deck, bought it soon after they came out (600ish)
I love it. Alpine head units are the best.
Other brands cant come close to Alpine quality (eclipse maybe)
