Anyone experiencing system freeze when shutting down on Win XP??

Whenever I shut down, the system will take a long time to do so. I can see the hd light blinking slightly at the shut down screen and then when the light finally blinks continuously and stops, my system freezes. The system just could not switch itself off.

Fyi, I am using the Abit KR7A-Raid mobo. I have got a feeling Windows XP does not like the uncertified drivers I installed for my Leadtek Gf2 Ti 200 TDH and my Highpoint raid drivers. Before installing these drivers, my system shuts down fine.. but not after. What gives?

Anybody else here experiencing the same thing?

Disable nVidia Driver Helper in services and see if that resolves it. You may want to just go to the 23.11 drivers as these fix the issue, however some people are having issues with these as well for different reasons...you make the call, they work perfect on mine. The issue you have sounds like it caused by the driver helper service, but I've not heard of it causing a system freeze, just very long shutdown times.

Hmm.. nvidia driver helper? Where can I disable that?

I updated my Windows XP and the shutdown freeze seems to be gone now. However, it is still taking a long time for it to shut down.

Go to the control panel, perfomance and maintenance, administrative tools, services. Find nvidia driver helper, right click on the offending service and select properties. On the general tab, set "Start-up type:" to disabled.

It worked!! My system shuts down much faster now. Thanks for your tip.

Just curious though.. what exactly does the nvidia driver helper do?
