I measured twice and cut once, so my first piece is perfect except for the fact the the one wall corner is not sharp at all. The problem is that the width of the wall at the very top is 1/4" less that it is where the bottom of the molding is (and the entire rest of the wall for that matter).

How do I cut it down so 1. it will fit and 2 the piece on the other wall will mate with it?

you don't, you fill it w/ grout. then the seal it. that makes it look all nice and neat. me and my brother-in-law just installed hardwood floors and moldings in my house. kinda fun when everything works out nice.

I thought you were talking about your teeth for a second there. I was basking in the awe of your cheapness until I realized that's not what you meant.

Oh, and the trick to making the next piece mate up properly is to use a coping saw to cut the backside of the next piece so that it sits down properly on the first board. Unless it is an outside corner, in which case, you will have to just mess around until you get the miter angle just right.

inside corner

here is a tip: use pre-primed particleboard. You can sand it to fit in no time... :D
